Hi guys
I have a question about how slippery and skittish my CLK 230 should've in the rain or on wet roads post rain.
I find my back end slipping out just turning a corner from starting off at lights with very few rpm and wether I'm set in Winter or Standard off the switch. It's starting to become a real chore to drive. This is my first rear wheel drive car but I'm sure this can't be how it was sold from new. I had a 2ltr Peugeot HDI before this car and at similar speeds on the same routes it was never so skittish.
I'm running the car on: Prestivo Sport tyres-205/55/R16. Pressure 30psi front 32/33 rear.
Any views or info would be helpful as I'm thinking of selling her if I can't sort it out with winter coming in the UK very soon.
Thank you for any help in advance.

Very slippery tyres you have there !

Change the tyres for some Michelin Pilot Sports or Continental Sport contacts and your CLK weill resume normal service :)

As above change the tyres and all will become normal, tyre choice on the CLK does really affect the traction and a poor choice always gives a loose back end

I run my car on the Pilot sports and it handles the 788nm of torque ... even in the wet

Hi
So those tyres are an issue. Does anyone have any info on the prestivos or is it just preference as I don't want to throw money at it in the wrong direction
Ty guys

They are Yokohama budget brand so one would expect them to be ok

Depending where you lived, maybe someone would allow you to whip their back wheels on to your car and run up a few miles to test any improvement.

I live Nottingham area and would be happy to oblige (my car has 16'' wheels/pirelli tyres)

Although they are Yokos they are one of the hardest compounds on the market and are shocking in wet weather and slippy conditions.

Its a great idea to swap wheels with someone, where are you located?

Other possibility is that your rear suspension is shot- broken springs or the shocks have seen better days. Broken springs are pretty common on all Mercedes and not always obvious. Get it up on a ramp have a good tug at all the 5 link suspension arms to see if any show play. That said the Prestivos don't have a good rep in the wet

Great Ty guts that covers most of what I'd thought I'm hoping it's just tyres otherwise I've bought a **** ;)
Cheers I'll post if I sort it.
Also one other question anyone know why I can't post with sellers on classified section on here ?
