CLK 320 Roof Handle

How are you 2 guys doing, i have a bunch of pictures i took when i originally did this, if you let me have a email addy i can send you the lot in a zip file.

Rich
Hi rich can you send me any info of how to do soft top handle and photos please

Dhillier, the fix for the roof handle is very easy! I was very wary about fixing mine, but I followed Dave Allinson’s posts and the photos from ZXRichie and others in this thread and it worked perfectly. Total cost was about £4. Apart from Torx screwdrivers no special tools required.
Just read the thread from the first post on page 1 through to page3 to get the issues and method clear in your head.
Sorry can’t help with the window and seat problems, but my seat too works intermittently, so I’d be interested in any fix.
Good luck, but the handle fix is really very easy thanks to the guys who have posted their methods.
Cheers
Paul
Hi Paul can’t really see were the ha

Hi all,
Thank you for this thread, this has been a tremendous help. Had a similar problem as all the previous listers, although in my case the handle did not fall on my lap but it simply did not want to turn anymore . Which was initially hard as it meant that I could not even get the handle off to start the dismantling and access the required parts. Anyway, with some wiggling I was able to turn it and open it after all. A few key notes from me / replies to earlier posts:
  1. You need to get the handle off with a small Torx.
  2. The method I used to keep it all together again is put the washer in place, and use Loctite epoxy to keep it together as I do not have all the fancy tools. Seems to hold so far (touch wood). Make sure you apply enough pressure when the epoxy is setting in so that the round piece of metal comes through enough and the washer has something to attach to.
  3. It is not true that this (flimsy) mechanism has to stand all the force when pulling it downwards. When you pull it downward, the oblong shaped bolt goes through the black triangle piece of metal, then turns, and then the force will be on the turned bolt onto the metal. This does mean that it is key to only pull down with the handle completely turned !
  4. My mistake: do not use WD40 to loosen it up, as the middle part should be tight with the washer (not loose). So I had to clear this all out before I could do the Epoxy stuff.
  5. The linen was stuck to the metal in my case, so had to partially cut this to get it loose.
  6. Some people asked what it was like before it fell apart, e.g. in which hole the spring goes. As mine had only come loose and not completely apart, see attached photos for what it would look like (assuming mine had not been taken apart before).
See attached bunch of photos, hope it helps the next one !

greetings from Canberra, Australia
