clk coupe purchase

It's better to match tires on the same axle to avoid any strange handling, braking or wear problems.

I know on some 4x4 cars you have to replace all 4 tires at the same time to avoid ESP and ABS issues.

ahh ok got you! :thumb:

tec, your chinese sat nav does it run on android, is it plug and play, what map do you have running on it

Congratulations on the purchase! Glad the car was right for you!

Look forward to the progress threads, in regards to HID's, I've had them in my reflector headlamps with no problems at all, never been flashed by anyone to say that I'm dazzling them or had wonky light patterns, just pick a decent 35W kit. I'm more often dazzled by 100w/wonky patterns of halogen headlights which are in a right worst state than HID.

Also very interested in the Chinese comand lookalike install, would advise to go for the Android operating system unit.

Lastly, enjoy the new addition, it is already great without any modifications :) Look forward to see some photos (not from the advert) :D:D:D

Cheers litcan, can you recommend me a hid kit shall I consider purchasing the hid anti glare version if this helps, how easy is it to install? have you got any pics?

I'll upload some pics as soon as I can :D

Looking for recommendations on which Chinese command to purchase and whether this would be plug and play too

cheers

The kits you listed earlier looked fine.

The anti glare kits will have the top part of the bulb covered, meaning that light will only shine on the bottom half, causing the anti glare effect (your headlamp light pattern should control that anyway, but you could opt for the option to be on the safe side)

I can't help you with recommendation, as I haven't tried one myself and have never seen one installed in a face lift w209, I can only help you with some links of the ones that looked interesting to me on ebay.

It runs Android 4.4.4.

Apart from having to install an ignition sense wire from the cigar socket and connecting it to the new radio loom, all the wiring was plug 'n' play,
as in it came with all the wiring looms that convert from the original Merc unit to the Android unit.
The included canbus module is supposed to emulate the ignition sense wire, but I found that not to be the case as without the connection I made it does not switch on using just the canbus when ignition is on.

The satnav software that I use at present is Igo Primo V9 which came with it, but I have also tested it with TomTom Go, but since I changed the firmware to a custom one TomTom does not run, but everything else works fine.

I had some rust problems on my rear arches - not cheap to fix (£500 cash), but they have lasted so far ( three months). I bought some marine rust killer and as they only used a little amount, there is plenty left. More than happy to send you some if you're interested.

Did you have any rust problems on the front? what was the process to sort the rust out?

rang mercedes to check if it could be done under the warranty unfortunately the warranty expired sep :( they quoted £700 per arch!

whats the name of the marine rust killer? i've also read some good things on por15

Looks great!! :) :)

Cheers! when reversing should the wing mirrors dip as this does not happen with either wing mirror, trying not to kerb the wheels as they are unmarked

The dipping function is on cars with memory seats and the near side mirror only. Select that mirror button and it should work if you have memory seats and when you engage reverse

No rust problems on the front. They took the wings down to bare metal on both sides of the wings then applied the rust killer to the inner wing and the plenty of underseal. Then the primed and sprayed the outer wing. Note that it is a common problem on these cars and, despite you thinking that it is only surface rust, they ALWAYS rust from the back! And the bodyshop did a perfect job. It is very important that you can give as much protection as you can because no bodyshop will guarantee that the rust will not re-appear and consequently cost you another bucketful of cash.

I spent hours researching this before I parted with my hard-earned until I was a sure as I could be that I was doing the right thing. £700 per side is a complete ripoff - £500 cash (I think they lost the VAT) is right for doing the PAIR.

The rust killer is called 'Aqua-Steel' and it is worth checking out. As I said, they only used a little amount so I have plenty left so I'm happy to send it to you and you can return it when the job's done.

Regards,
Mike

Cheers Mike for the information, I think i'll get around to this in the new year when the weather improves, will drop you a PM nearer the time, just like you I like to do my research ;)

Not sure whether I have a bigger concern on my hands now regarding the engine rattling on startup whether this is a characteristic or a problem with something to do with the oil or timing chain :(

I've noticed in the morning not sure whether its all the time or only on occasions when I start the vehicle there is a rattle which clears after after a few seconds

I have read on the forums/google this could potentially be due to the timing chain being stretched or something to do with the oil, I was under the impression the earlier clk's were only affected

a local merc specialist has recommended I replace the chain as a preventative measure, and if I do not bother it will cost me long term as I will then have to change the gears etc

Can anyone put my mind at rest whether the rattle is due the timing chain or whether this is a characteristic of the vehicle

Cheers
