Hi I have searched the forums for an answer however can't find anything as specific as my issue.

I have a CLK W209 and have an issue with the driver side door. I get this issue once every couple of months however it always seems to sort itself out. When I unlock the car and open the door the central locking works fine however sometimes once the door is closed the problem starts. When the door is closed the self closing windows (they move down on the coupe so you can open the door) don't close again and leave a gap in the top and side of the window. Along with this the window control on the driver side stops working (the backlight on the window buttons also do not illuminate), the electric mirrors stop working and so does the central locking but only for the drivers side door.
Like I said in the past it has happened however this time it has not corrected itself and I'm left having to manually lock the door, the window has a slight gap and the folding mirrors not closing (can't adjust mirrors also).

I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or has any idea what it could be? Could it be electrical or something simple like a loose cable on the door that stops the electrics from working (as the buttons don't light up when this issue happens)?

The car is recognising when the door is opened and closed as it does not give me a warning saying that the door is open, the internal lights dim when the door is closed and the seat belt auto feeder also works when the door is closed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated... I hope it does not rain or snow tonight!

Also just to add normally the auto folding mirrors un-fold when the door is first opened and the window closes as soon as the door is closed however recently I have noticed that there is a deal in these both operating and it is only once I start that car the mirrors un-fold and the window self closes

This sounds like a problem with the (door control unit). The control unit is accessible once the door panel has been removed and it is located at the top left section of the door. failure of this control unit will result in all the symptoms that you have described. The unit costs around 240.00 pounds and is straight forward to replace...Hope this helps.

Thanks that's very helpful.

Do you know if the passanger door control unit is the same?
IE could I swap them over to see if it fixes the fault before spending the money on a new one?

Passenger DCM is different. There were I think 2 versions of the DCM one that support all the memory / folding mirror functions, and a simpler one - so replace with same clearly. (there may have been lots of part numbers though as software changed). If you see a picture, the higher the K or Q number written on the module the newer the firmware.

Lots on ebay for under £30 - search "CLK door module"

Technically they need coding to turn on/off options such as folding mirrors and memory.

Check the battery, I've had exactly the same issues, I even took the wing mirror apart. If you go on a long journey it'll start working again once you have enough charge.

How old is your battery? I'm sure replacing it will fix your problems

I have made a couple of threads on this already :)

Hi the car is a 2005 and has the original battery, now you mention it has started happening since I had a amplifier fitted with a power cap.

I will check the voltage of the battery too. I took the door car off today to find the part number of the control unit and it's well over £330 and I didn't want to spend it if it won't fix the issue. I have it booked into MB main dealer in the morning however I'm working tonight so it will have a long charge on the way in and back so I am hoping it is the battery like you say!

Like I said it's happened a few times before but just sorts itself out.

Cheers I got the part number, unfortunately as per usual find it hard to find CLK 209 parts even on eBay... The nearest seller is in America lol.
It will have to be a main dealer job if that's what faulty.

Mine started happening after I fitted a stereo.

I was having problems with the passenger side window, when you open it the window didnt fully seal and I was left with a gap. also when I pressed the button the backlighting on the passenger door button went out for a couple of secs. Also, my folding mirror function failed.

I only worked out it was the battery when I was working on my car with the headlights/radio on and 'Low Voltage' appeared on the Audio20 screen.

After 30 mins or so in the car (with the stereo off) everything returned to normal, folding mirrors and the door window.

Do you have a battery you can try on it?

I don't have a spare battery however will see how it is after tonight's run.
I got a battery charger I could connect to test it I guess or just use a battery from someone else's car

Bad news so far... Still same issue after a drive... I will take it for a long run on my way home this morning.

If not I will charge the battery and see if this helps, if not then run a diagnostics to get to the bottom of it.

Well the good news now is that it started working again so must be the battery.

Ill take it for a good 2 hour run on the motorway tonight.
Does anyone know if you can re-charge the genuine MB batteries? I might give this a shot over the weekend if I still get issues ill just get a new battery

If I remember correctly, MB batteries have a date code on one of the terminal posts. If the battery is 6-7 years old, i'd opt to replace it as thats all i'd expect from a battery and as you've found out the cars don't behave well if battery is playing up.

I have one of those "intelligent" chargers that de-sulfates the plates (or whatever the technical term is) and then charges at different rates dependant on the state of the battery and can be left to trickle charge a battery for ever. Still doesn't seem to make my SL battery last more than 2-3 years but then it gets a hammering since its rarely used and theres always loads of consumers on when I start the car :-)

I would also be looking at a possible brak in th ewiring loom in the door shut

Id replace the battery otherwise your going to get the same thing happening again in the future.

ECPs are doing 25% batteries.

Any good battery place will check your current battery and charging system before selling you a new one but as others have said the W209 (and others) suffer all sorts of odd things when the charge is down. Dont forget it could be the alternator but as the age of the battery is nearly 8 years, its had a good life!

PS if you have a Mercedes service then Mobilo will come and check it out when you next can't start it :thumb:

PPS Dont forget the main dealer may be doing deals as well

hello friends..

I have a MB clk 200 kompressor 2003 w209 car.. and in driver side window I have got the same problem (the gap) when I open and close my door its not working on the automatic gap closing window movement.. I went a car service and they said that thats because of my door control unit ( new one costs 300 euro ) the other memory or electrical problems are fine in my car.. could be possible a battery problem for my car? 3 months ago I had a battery problem but service said that it was ok for my battery..

How old is the battery? sounds like you may need a new one aswell. ask a garage to test its voltage for you.

thanks for your attention and reply.. I am the second owner I bought it in june so that I have got no idea about the battery year but it seems old:) I will go the service and check for the voltage tests thank you.. it is so weird that when we open the door inside and took the memory unit from the car an re isntalll it the window suddenly works perfect.. but if you close tha car and then re open it and start the engine, the problem starts again for the window:(
