Hi folks,
I want to buy a CLK430. However I am concerned that fuel consumption is going to be quite hefty in the long run.
Is an LPG conversion feasible? What are the performance/reliability implications?

Thanks,

Hello

What sort of millage do you do? as thats the big factor. I would think close on 30 should be possible on a run (sensible speeds). Around town would think 20.

LPG should be possible no problems with many V8 BM's and big Audis being converted. All sorts of tanks you can get also but will eat boot space unless you go for a donut tank.

Factor in the 2K conversion and that will buy a lot of fuel?

All depends on your millage I guess, I recently bought an ML350 over the ML270 cdi as the difference to me if I get 20mpg or 30mpg is not that much.

ooh and I'm getting 25mpg average on a run

Cheers

We have a CLK 500 last long run averaged 32.5mpg. over last 11000 miles av is 26.5mpg mixture of city & dual carriageway. You would need to cover some serious miles to make the conversion worthwhile

We have a CLK430 .... we average 27 ish mpg on the Motorway ( not going nuts but moving along briskly ;) ) and about 22 around town...

TBH if your're going to be worrying about fuel all the time, the V8 probably isn't the right car for you .....

Good luck

Worth checking if the CLK has a space saver tyre as this might rule out a donut tank conversion (like on my W124).

Cheers,

Mark
