Hi chaps,

In the past I've been able to open my windows and turn the drivers cooled seat on from remotly the key by holding down the unlock button, last time I tried to do this though it never worked.

Battery in the key is less than 4 months old. Car is W219 CLS.

Any idea's what the problem could be?

Are you pointing the key at the driver's door handle? It's an infrared link.

Look at the end of your key with a digital camera (a phone camera will do) whilst pressing the button to see if it lights up — digital cameras can see infrared. If it does, the problem's in the car.

Ahhhh clever :) Tried it and yes it lights up.

I'll try it again later when pointing it at the infared part on the handle.

Having to point it at the infared part on the door handle means that I'm not going to be able to open the windows from my office 10 mins before finishing work, my office is on the first floor

So are you saying that you used to be able to perform this function from the 1st floor prior to it not working recently??

I'm guessing the RF remote worked from that range, and MisterAdam reasonably assumed that the opening command was also transmitted over RF. I was surprised to find it was a separate IR link when I bought my car: Ford do it over RF so you can open all the windows from the same range - and from any angle - as you can unlock it.

If it's anything like the IR remote control operation of the roof on the SLK, then you need to be standing right next to the car and have a very steady hand for it to work.

Problem solved:-

My BMW used to let me open the windows from my office on the first floor, without pointing the key's at the car or any of that jazz.

As mentioned above, for it to work with the CLS I have to point the key at the infared square on the door handle. Tried it yesterday and it worked, you just have to have the key inches from the door handle. If I'm that close to the car though I'm only one step away from getting in the car and pressing the buttons in there.

Poor mark's for Mercedes there really.

Would you really want the risk of your car windows being open after kids/someone been messing with the keys!

No body ever messes with my keys, so that would never be a problem.
