CLS55 AMG exhaust sound and lowering

Hello,

First post here. I'm Bryce from Scotland and I currently drive a M3 CSL. Recently I've gotten the notion to get myself a big comfy V8 and the CSL will turn in to a garage queen. I was really set on a CLS55 AMG, until yesterday...

Took a silver one out a spin, and it ticked every single box except one.. The engine / exhuast noise. Its FAR too quiet. I expect the sound of thunder and something that would make heads turn. Now I realise its more of an executive car and there will be a lot done to sedate the sound.

Question is, what can I do to make it sound better? Never been one for aftermarket exhausts but I may have to. The c63 I got to start sounded perfect (albeit a slightly diff engine but still v8)

Also, am I correct in saying the CLS has air susp and therefore I could buy a module to adjust ride height as and when I please.

Thank you
Bryce

Have the centre silencer removed and you will have all the V8 sound you want, i assure you, you wont be disappointed.

And yes you are correct, modules are available to allow for the ride height to be adjusted.

As fun as the CSL might be to drive, you cant beat the acceleration and sound you will get from the AMG.

Hi Bryce86, I know what you need!!!

Have a look at my new album posted today "Exhausts" If you want details let me know

I'm starting to take offence to those badges now, bud!

Welcome to the site,

I'm abit surprised I thought they sounded really nice, I'm after one of these cars so i'll probably have a test drive at some point next year or maybe this year depending on when I get rid of my M3 and slk55.. still in two minds... but you can easily get 600+bhp out of these 55's

Here is a member on here who has one of these and that's what he think:thumb:

Might end up being something like that too, at the next AMG meet!

LOL!

Lol. Yeah, "Rashman The Obsessive Complulsive",

"Don The Encourager" and finally

"Gazza The Imitator"

will be going at it! :p

For the exhaust try. Www.torque flow.co.uk
Or get some kleemann headers aswell as a decat.

To lower it use a renntec module or links which are cheap but not as good as a module.

Thanks acid

If you "don a rash" you get a gazzaaaaaaaaa

Hi Mr Intimitator here....now ive been v.busy adding some more bitz today

Have you dropped a 63 lump in there yet then? :D

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I eventually bought myself a cls 55. It came with 63 alloys on and a renntech module which was a bonus.

Still though, I'm looking for a bit more rumble from the v8...that deep burble when just pulling away slowly at low rpm. Don't want to spend mega bucks and reversible would be great incase I dislike.

Also on another note, I seem to get wind noise coming from the drivers door which goes away when I push the glass. Obviously a bad seal but has anyone come up with an easy fix?

Thanks

hi byrce86, i have the CLS55 AMG and have had the exhaust resonator box removed and a x-pipe put in, both done by torque flow in birmingham, it sounds like a proper muscle car now, real deep rumble.

As Acid has said different links can change the ride height, I had mine done by lowermyairride .com, and have been very happy with the ride and the service from the guys

The 55amg engine is tuneable to about 640bhp and its the best car i have ever owned.

My pics of the car are on here somewhere, just do a search for sheepy67 to see the ride height

steve

Yep resontanors out,X pipe and lowering links sounds like best and cheapest option.Keep the orinial muflers as they look awsome.
When done don't forget about a sound clip :)

Thanks lads. The car I bought came with the renntech lowering module so I'm sorted on that front.

Steve, I had a look at your thread, car is looking well now! However you seem to have removed the rear cats as well as the resonator? Did you do both at same time and what was the approximate cost? Shame you weren't any closer for a run...
