CLS55 AMG exhaust sound and lowering

Renntech module. 1.8" lower in front and 1.2" rear. Beauty is it's adjustable in 0.2" increments on each individual wheel and can be set to switch off at xx mph.

It's usually clean by the way

Beautiful! My favourite car! :)

sorry, yes i had the rear cats removed as well as the resonator and the xpipe done. Torue flow did it for £350 all in , though they kept the cats.
Whereabouts are you?

I like those wheels, though my next set are going to be MEC Extreme 3's in 20 inch.
I also like the idea of the adjustable renntech lowering kits, that height is just right

Not bad. Do you think res. removal would be enough on it's own? And what is the benefit of x pipe over straight through. Any sound clips I've heard are American and they rev the stones off them. They don't seem to appreciate a v8 in the way we do. Ten a penny over there maybe.

I'm just above Carlisle so about 220miles from bham.

It is handy being able to adjust at the flick of a switch. I change my mind all the time on height and handy for obstacles. Rear is spaced 15mm.

The X-pipe is to balance the exhaust flow from both banks of the V8. The idea of removing the back cats is to reduce the restrictions on the gas flow. I found that all the engine braking disappeared after this was done.

There are still 2 cats left at the base of the headers, so MOT emmisions is ok, apparently it has 4 for the american market..

In terms of value for money it was great. My wife thinks the car is broke but she's not much of a petrol head. Going through tunnels or just putting your foot down on an empty road, it brings a smile to my face.

I would like to get the headers done, but the cost means its going to be 2013 as i have some other stuff planned in 2012.

Fantastic. Sean would you mind pm'ing me a rough price? Is it reversible.

Does it give you more grumble down low when say pulling away gently at low revs. Almost TVR like?

can't PM you as you have less than 30 posts .. cost was about £250

I suppose it is reversible, but I have thrown away the rear silencer ...

Sound is more subtle than a TVR, still refined, but more presence. Throttle action is what causes increased sound ...

If you are in London, am happy to demo to you.

Have you ever heard a c63? How does it compare?

I recon you could get similar to it.C63 got really sick sound to it I'm not sure but I think it has butterfly valves on mufflers like C5 corvette or RS4.
Good custom shop and they should sort you out. When going to use any see if they have kind of a sound gallery.I always use CKS performance they will do with the sound whatever you ask for. With my W220 3.2 engine they nearly matched V8 sound.
Do a good research for a trusted and tested garage.

Cam you explain the "sound gallery" please. This intrigues me.

Bryce I think your CLS looks fantastic!

I just so happen to have recently bought a silver CLS 55 with the same wheels and am rather jelous of your grill!

I'd never previously thought of changing it but yours, in my opinion freshens up the front.

Do you have any idea who makes it or where I might find one?

Thanks in advance

Ur car looks Heavy!

Just incase anyone else should have this question regarding the CLS grill, Ive resarched it and found that the grille fitted to bryce's car is a 2009 facelift 2 slat grille from the CLS 63 AMG.

It's not a direct swap for the 55 AMG, the top clips apparently fit but the bottom set wont. I think there are ways around it...

The part is available with the MB star from MB direct for £322.80 Part only.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies lads. It was the previous owner that put the grille on and it does really make a big difference to the front end.

Im actually now selling this car as there'll soon be no room. Fantastic car in great condition. Get in touch at [email protected] - I havent posted enough for the classified section.

i was eyeing up your car in the pistonheads classified bit thinking that looks really smart

good luck with the sale

Very nice example indeed.

Jules
