Was the SBC pump replaced under warranty Chris. This isn't the normal scenario.
For the (MB) dealer to replace this, an impeccable full MB service history and a huge amount of luck was needed for MB to even make a contribution.
If MB charged £2.5k for a new pump, that is a massive overcharge. The pump can be obtained for around £630 and a couple of hours labour! That's MB dealerships for you :fail
The dealer and Merc both paid for it, 50/50 I believe. I think the dealer had a good relationship with Mercedes. My car had a FSH, but only part Mercedes. They also replaced one of the parking sensors.
I have been lucky with my car. In the 2 years I've owned it I've D serviced it, put on 4 new tires, new wiper blades, a new battery and some suspension work, track rod ends etc. and a crank shaft sensor.
Other than that its a flying machine. When I bought it I researched the hell out of it and knew the break pump and airmatic are the major issues with it. The engine is almost bullet proof, although I'm hearing and reading of problems with the 55 engine in the E class.
The CLS 55 AMG for me is a great car. Mine is 10 years old and it looks better than most, even newer cars. I'm not a fan of the new CLS nor the new range of Mercs, looks wise.
My car gets stares wherever I go and complimented on.
What pleases me most about my car is its power, its sound and how refined it all is. It will eat up most cars out there, even super cars.
Lately I have a few electrical problems, the front passenger door won't open from the outside if someone is trying to open it so I have to unlock it and the keyless entry doesn't work for some reason.
It is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned and will likely to own, its just a shame I'll be getting rid of it very soon as I rarely drive it these days.
