Thanks to picking up on advice from this Club, I was able to suggest (correctly) to Kwik Fit to look for a broken coil spring on the left rear wheel and Presto!, I was right and easily (but costly!) fixed. Hence, I had to join the club and this is my first post. Thanks already and hoping to learn a lot more from all the know-hows.

Hi, glad you're sorted & on the road again, do you mind sharing how much this was to fix, how long it took & is the work gauaranteed?

Just in case anybody else needs the info', I just had to get mine sorted. I've been quoted £70.80 per spring & £120.80 fitting per spring (rear). They are dealer prices. The local garage I use have quoted £67.xx for an hour and a halfs work to fit one spring. So, I've bought the spring & will have it fitted by my local on Monday...
Mine is a "sport" spring apparently with 3 blue dots for the C220 CDI Coupe Evo (2007 model).

Hope this helps. The dealer said they didn't advise getting both done at the same time so I haven't. Can't afford it this month either what with one thing and another :(

Always best [ but not strictly necessary] to renew springs at both sides to preserve the suspension balance of the car. Quite often the other old spring will fail fairly soon also -if its not a "silent" broken spring already. Its also easy to check the new springs for matching spring height off the car. Your MB dealer was perhaps trying to reduce the "perceived cost" to get the job?
ps I reckon an hour a side for rear springs is ample there's only one large bolt to remove.

Never thought of the "silent" aspect, The other deciding factor was that the dealer only had one in & reckoned he wouldn't get another till Tuesday. I need the car for work Monday PM too so this played a part in my decision making. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact the other will go at some point but if it can wait till next month, that would be very handy! Thank for the heads up on the time allowance too, they're good guys so will only charge what it takes to be honest. Thanks again...

Spreading out failures isn't something that cars are keen to do it seems.

My wallet hurts.

Update, car went in, mechanic called me 2.5 hours later & said that he'd checked everything & couldn't find a thing wrong. Shocks are all A ok, springs are all A ok & have the correct markings on... he checked the ride height on both rear corners & both are approx 64 cm from road to bottom of arch. He did say that he looked at the car when I dropped it off & visually it appeared to be lower on the drivers side but I had to concede that when I picked it up it did appear to be correct on both sides. he didn't want to charge but I paid half the agreed fee for his trouble. Spring can be refunded from merc' & I'm none the wiser as to why "sometimes" the drivers side appears lower than the passenger. Top result - for now - I think but I'm wary of celebrating to early :-) ... :dk:

drivers side may appear lower just after you have put 50kg of fuel on that side of the car?

Would it really have that dramatic an effect!? I had no idea the fuel tank was on the right either, would have thought it would have been central to help balance the car out to be honest.

Its usually on the other side from the driver in a LHD.
