Comand 2.0 Multimedia interface

Where did you fit your interface......I am thinking it would be useful to be close to the lighter socket to power your video source? how long are the cables going to the comand?

would like to see some pics:)

Joe

Ill post pics tomorrow, I moved it today; I had the unit inside the dash to the left of the comand unit and had trailing cables (3 of) coming out in the glove box, where the aux cable would go.
However I found out that the unit has contrast, brightness, colour switches etc on it. So I move the unit into the glove with the cables passsing through where the aux socket goes.

The cables are about 50 - 60 cm long. YOu could easily extend them though to the glovebox for power.
Alternately I could piggy back the the power that goes into the unit.

I did take pictures this time and will put them up tomorrow, hopefully with a how to remove your comand as well for those that havent done it before. (in a w203 that is )

Then this is only suitable for Command with the vid aux and not the earlier versions with sound only. OK you can plug into the TV input on the rear, but this needs activating on STAR

Yes, I didnt realise that earlier comands were also called comand 2.0
When you look at the unit it tells you which comand it works for.

I am getting a little confused here! I have a COMAND 2.0 (CD based) in my MY2001 W163. This has a TV button on the front. Will this device allow me to play my video iPod through the COMAND (sound and vision)?

Thanks!

Dave

Like Dave, I am a little confused, I have a MY 2001 W210 Command 2.0. Is there a simple method of finding out which system is fitted to what car?

Thanks:confused:

Steve

The Command 2 does not have an AUX video input, only sound.

Though you have the TV button and inputs on the rear for the TV tuner these can only be activated on STAR and this tuner is recognised and coupled via fiber optics.
There are a further 2 inputs on the tuner (analogue) if you have one

Thanks Malcolm. Just to be clear, are you saying that his device will not work because there is no video input?

Sorry if I appear to be dense here but I just need a definitive answer as all the evidence seems to indicate that it will work but I don't want to spend £100 if it won't!

Thanks, Dave

It's a lot more money but I found a device called MER01DVB listed on various ICE-shop websites with prices from £550 to £700 which claims to be a digital freeview TV tuner and AV interface which emulates the functions of the factory TV tuner.

Before buying I would want to see it functioning but I suspect that you'll never get to see one installed (you know how these things work).

What I do know is that My Command does not have a video input, only sound and that the wide screen that came out in 2003-4 does have a video input.

I think if you ask Alfie you will get the same answer, but do ask him, as he knows more about these things than me.

The audio input is a normal 0db 775mv input and nothing can convert that to video

Hi Malcolm,

I am still alittle confused - must be me being thick this morning!

So, to clarify please;

1) Are you saying that the lead that Hughjarse purchased and installed will NOT work with the Command 2.0 from a MY 2001 W210?

2) Or are you saying it WILL work but will have to be activated via Star Diagnostics?

3) Or it will ONLY work if I had a Mercedes TV Tuner with the additional inputs?

Like HughJarse, I would like to connect my command to an Archos to play back both video and audio through the command using the steering controls and if possible viewing the track information on the dash display.

Thanks for your help
Steve

I do know that the inputs to all of the MB versions are Opto wake up, its possible that these devices have a simulated in and out.

The MB digi retro kit is £650 and all of their tuners have a video aux input

For comand 2.0 you need to fit either the factory TV tuner or an AV interface and you can input video to comand. I don't know how much more you need to know. AFAIK the tv tuner/av interface does not use fibre.

So sorry you are correct, and I should know having been there and done it

this being the case all you need to do is to get the TV input activated on STAR that is fine for any line out video input

Its no good what was I thinking, maybe I should stop posting :( here is a picture of my TV tuner with no optics.

I think my error came about by reading to much about wake up circuits in the little room, and one gets a kind of brain washed in the head.

So it's just copper then?

Thanks for clearing it up! :D

75Ω is the best but it is a little on the fat side, the 50Ω is fine in practice as used in scart and video inter connects.

And thank you for pointing out my error

NO youre completley WRONG..
It does work as I have it working! I push the TV button and I can view vidoe and audio form the input box.
I will put a video on here tonight when I get home. I have a COMAND 2.0 CD based DX and it works perfect, in fact the picture quality is superb.

I see youve realised different, I am however eager to know whether you thought I was making the whole thing up or completely mad?

When I said no video input, on mine I mean from the aux plug in the glove box

Yes the are inputs on the rear of mine.

Is it not that I am talking about the aux plug in the glove box where you are referring to the input on the rear of the command.

Please do not be upset, I do believe you. I use such things when doing installs from NTSC to PAL and changing the scan rate on projectors.
