sorry steve!

i meant do i have to use separate aerial for each component (tv tuner, phone, sat nav) or can i get away with using fewer! (dont know if its possiable?) because of price and want the car to look stock.

comand 2.5 into w126, yes i know i should of gone for a comand 2.0 and it would be alot easier but hey I'M USING THIS ! already bought it.

thks!

I am sure threre are several combined GPS/Phone antenna's around both after market and from your friendly MB dealer. The TV arials are definately required as a separate set, but as I said, can be mounted inside the bumpers. I think you can buy the tax disc type combined antennas. Known as GSM/GPS dual band I think.

hope this helps

I have a small issue with my aerial connectors. I have bought and fitted my GPS aerial which was fine, screws straight into the roof.

I also bought a wiring connector from the aerial lead to my comand. The problem is , the connector on the aerial lead (already in the dash) is the same as my conertor lead. I.e they are both male connectors. What I need to know is does anyone have a part number for an alternative lead or can they provide me with some techy info regarding a splice connector I think it is called an RG174 connector

When is steve next coming i'd be interested in the comand with TV option what would it cost for a w209.

Thanks

Hi,

You all seem very knowledgeable. I am trying to work out the following;

1) Which version of the COMMAND system is fitted in the UK in the ML?
2) Is there an AUX input easily accessible for an IPOD (and if not how hard is it to fit).

There seems to be a lot of discussion here and elsewhere about v1, v2 and v2.5 but although v2 seems to have been out for a long time when I look at what is currently being offered in the UK they mostly seem like V1 is that correct?

The big square comand with a 163 part number, like the one I fitted to my w202.

Here is the HOWTO: HOWTO: iPod to COMAND W208 CLK, although it isn't specifically for your car, the operations of the comand unit and the hardware/tools/skills required are the same, the only difference is the interior pieces of the car.

This is the confusing part! Comand is a double din unit, so the comand you're looking for is comand 2.0, comand 2.5 is half a din wider so only fits in the dashboard of a CL or an S. THEN mercedes released a new version of comand (takes DVDs) which some people call Comand II. I don't think a device was ever refered to as Comand 1 ;) .

If you would like to speak to someone who has installed comand in an ML, try Steve_bcs, he is very knowledgable and he has fitted comand to several cars, most of which I have seen :) . I think he also has some comand parts for sale, including a couple of 163 units that would fit in your car.

beginning of July

greetingz,

AS Shude says, I have fitted comand to my ML & also to my old E class W210 and recently to my C class W203. Its not hard once you have the part numbers of all the parts you need and also the procedures .. something MBenz dealers will not tell you. Thats the beauty of this and other MB forums . We pool our knowledge for the benefit of the members.

I get used units from time to time and occasionaly the odd new one. They are also available on ebay. SOme are good , some are not . I've had a couple of iffy ones that I've had to send back ... even MBenzNL had to replace one of his for me. thats the trouble with used comands. The point is you need to buy off someone who offers some kind of guarantee even if thats to return your money - not likely on ebay though. Anything I have offered has been tested properley or has been new.

I'd be happy to offer any advice I can.

try looking at www.ibex.co.uk as well

Hi Steve

New member here. I recently bought a 2001 C32 AMG estate which is awesome  but unfortunately does not have the Comand system fitted. As I need sat nav for my job I would be very interested in having it retrofitted. Would it include everything, e.g. the TV tuner, phone kit, lingtronic, UK sat nav CD, etc? If so how much would it cost? Are you only going to London (I'm in Manchester)?

By the way, are you anything to do with Marco Schenk? He sells Comands on eBay and he emailed me to say he was coming over from Holland in July to install some in London.

Thanks.

Comand and conkers

Doh! I've just realised that Steve K was coming over last July! Does anybody know if he's coming over again soon?

I notice that there are several members close to me in Sale, Manchester who have installed the Comand system themselves. I'd appreciate any help as I can barely change a light bulb - in fact until recently I thought electrics was a posh Toyota...

Hi

I have posted in this thread already , but to recap,

Comand is fairly easy to retrofit on the 203 C class , but everything you need is an extra.

Basic Comand Unit
COmand Wiring Loom Incl CDC wiring
GPS Antenna
Map Disc
CD Changer ( comand doesnt allow music Cd's to play when navigating)
CDC Fibre optic
intergrated Phone Kit:-
Phone holder, Mounting bracket, Wiring Loom, Antenna, Control Unit , Fibre optic cable, DC Resistor, Enet compensator

TV Tuner
TV Loom
Tv Antennas

Steve K Mbenz NL sells the kit and I could advise on fitting with pleasure if he isnt able to fit in a visit .

If you do a search on here there is lots of advice & how to's relating to comand.

Are you sure its a comand 2.5 ? that the 2.5 din unit for the S class. I would imagine it is possible but I've never heard of it being done in a Class with that unit. try Braybrooks for a bit of advice.

actually no ive only had the car since march and for some reason 2.5 stuck in my mind from somthing the merc sales person had told me, its a 2001 model with the latest command system if that makes any diference at all

ahh your right the command 2 is for the c class god what a muppet i am

Hello again ppl,

I have a W211 E320 CDI with the standard CD player unit. I think its the Audio 20APS??? I would now like to have the COMMAND system fitted in :)
Please could you provide me with every thing I would need, all the bits and pieces?

Are you sure you want to install comand? :) You need to install the upgraded audio package too, which I think means replacing all the existing audio wiring and speakers! If you already have the upgraded audio then it's an easier job. Try searching the forum, MBenzNL already explained it all :)

Well, I would like to install command and hope the price doesnt get ridiculous. I havent a clue about the need for an upgraded audio system....im gonna have to search the forum for more info.
This is why I need help... :D so I can find out about everything :)

I don't think you do need to install the audio upgrade, you certainly don't have to have it to have it factory fitted, just that Steve said it is easier if you do have the HK system.
