Hi all,
Newbie here, Just got an 2007 R230 with Comand DVD yesterday.

I would like some advice regarding dvd media to use with the CD/DVD.

I made a DVD+R full of mp3 files, but this wont play. Have I used the wrong type of disc, or will the Comand aps slot and disc changer only play audio files from CDs

Any advice would be really appreciated.

If the unit originally came with the car, then I believe your unit is COMAND NTG 1.

You can also find more details here:

Comand Online Ltd

and here:

Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits

* Edit: *

This is and extract from the Mercupgrades website:

'The NTG1 was the first DVD based system, and thus the map disk carries a whole region (for instance Europe) on a single DVD. This makes life simpler...

NTG1 was fitted up until Model Year 2009 in the ...R230 SL... vehicles. The NTG1 head unit (COMAND) can play DVD and MP3 loaded CD/DVDs also.'

So it would seem that it should play MP3 files off DVDs?

Thanks for the info. Yes it would seem mine is NTG1. It plays pre recorded dvd films. I put the mp3s on a DVD+R disc but no joy. files loaded to a cd in the same manner is fine. I wondered if it was the type of dvd disc that was the problem? Thanks.

Thanks for that. I had just used Windows Media player to burn a playlist.. Will have to get some dvd-r discs!

Do you have Nero or Roxio use that if you do.

It should work. I've made a few DVD-R's as data discs with MP3's and they play fine in my NTG1. Remember, the menu system is restricted to a limit of 99 tracks so don't have any folders with over this amount. If you do, they'll still play the first 99 but any over that will be inaccessible. The CD Changer will play CD's with MP3 files on them.

Regards,

Thanks for all the tips. The 99 track limit might be the problem. I filled an entire DVD exceeding 99, so perhaps if I compile a DVD with albums in individual folders, and write as a data disc with Roxio or similar that may work. CDs (mp3) in the changer works ok though.

That's exactly what I do with mine - individual folders for albums.

The other "feature" is folders and files are displayed in alphabetical order. I've got all my mp3s set to rip with the filename xx-track. Has anyone found out if there is a way round this?
