I have bought a 2003 ML270CDi & take delivery in about 10 days time. It has factory fitted Comand.

I couldn't find an Aux In socket in the glovebox as I had hoped for IPod connection.
Is it possible to retro-fit an Aux In socket - what parts are needed and will it work OK with an IPod? My alternative is my current method which is an FM transmitter.

I would also like to be legal for mobile phone use. I don't use the phone much on the move and at the moment only use an ear piece/mic connected directly to the phone (Nokia 6230i)
I know nothing about alternative methods so forgive my ignorance:o
I guess I need something like a "Parrot", but my initial investigations reveal that this would be wired into the stereo to mute music when on a call. How easy is it to connect a Parrot to Comand? What model Parrot should I get? Or should I be looking for something else?

Aux input: Yes, it is possible - comandonline sells a kit for doing this, and you can get discount as a long standing mbclub member - (pm alfie)

You need to pop out the COMAND unit, and wire it in, and drill a 20mm hole in your glovebox for the connector. It does need special tools to do that (also available above)

COMAND has a 'mute' input. Assuming your car does not have BOSE sound system, you can get a DIN speaker relay, and its no different than installing any other car kit. (adapter goes between audio and speaker connector so it can take over the speakers during a call, and you need power for the parrot, which on a ML there is already a switched feed to the stereo, so you can get it from there)

As the ML does not have steering wheel controls/cluster-display, I dont recon its worth retrofitting the integrated phone system that will display your phonebook on the COMAND screen and let you dial from there - as the parts are about £550 on their own (integrated phone system + bluetooth adater) - But it is a nice thing to have.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Do you have any more info on this? Are the wires on the back of comand marked or can a marked wiring diagram be viewed anywhere on the 'net?

Its on the standard pin for MUTE on a DIN A connector (since its a standard DIN A and DIN B (speaker) connector on the back of COMAND
