Comand Upgrade From June

Dougholes said:
Since taking delivery of my 2013 E class each time I use the services menu I get the data failure message. All is ok with my old Samsung phone, so as per may posts on here the iPhone clearly won't interface.

However tonight whilst waiting to pick someone up I noticed if I turned my iPhone into a wifi hotspot the full Mercedes Internet system is accessible.

Did your Samsung phone only work before because you were using the BlueDUN app and is the iPhone working now only after the the most recent firmware has been applied to your Comand unit?

My samsung phone is a real old thing, with no apps (3 years old), but it allows access to google etc and the Merc apps etc..., whereas the iPhone always displayedc data failure.

I picked the car up last week in March and its not been back to the dealers since (it's the latest model variant).

The iPhone still fails unless I switch the phone to become a wifi hotspot. I only noticed the Merc apps work and you can get the apps up for Facebook google etc...

I will try and get BBC Iplayer up later and see if that works using the URL screen.

Wow, ok, thanks for the response and glad you've got it working. I never expected it to work through the Wi-Fi hotspot. I picked up my car in September last year so it has the black/red theme which changed in June last year but no idea if the generation is the same as yours which you received in March. I'm assuming it is and it is generation 2 because online it is saying that the iPhone compatible Comand units from June this year are generation 3, therefore my conclusion we must have the generation 2 units...

Tried setting mine to 'Hotspot', nothing. Been through all the settings on comand & cant find anything for it to connect. My car is June 2012 comandonline.

just spent a bit more time connecting with my iPhone acting as a hotspot. it appears to be only semi working, I can get some functions but not others and all is very slow. Tried BBC iplayer and that would not play. So given up will manage without roadside assist and run iplayer through 3G and the USB cable.

Is your car a facelift, or a pre-facelift? (And I take it that your iphone isn't jailbroken, etc. with some DUN app)?

Sunny.

That could be Mercedes slow servers!!

Had my Comand unit upgraded today, now running V8.0 maps. Can confirm that it definitely still doesn't work with an iPhone so does look like it was a hardware fix for the new Gen 3 NTG4.5 units, rather than software.

A map update wouldnt update the units software / firmware unless you specifically asked them to do this.

I did ask them to do the firmware update, however I can't see anywhere where I can find the version number of the unit in the normal menus. They just told me they had done it when I picked my car up so I believed them :-D

Any update on this

Hi all is there any news on the pre 2013 w212 E Class comand online data working with the iphone

No news that I know about. If it was going to happen I'm sure it would have by now, so I'm pretty sure it must have required a hardware change which the Gen 3 units have to make them work with the iPhone.
