Command update disc

Hello guys,

I am trying to get the ETA function on my 06 CLS from what i have read it appears I need the W211 589 13 22 00 service disk, my CLS has TMC and MP3 functionality and all works well with the new Map Disk V9 but no ETA :(

Now the problem, I have tried quoting the part number to no less than 3 dealers and all know nothing about it or say it will cost £35 to check my system and then it would take ages to find the right patch?? They won't sell me the disk as its classed as a toll and I may cause damage to my car. The engineer mode does not work on my car so it must be fairly up to date.

So long story short is it the right number and if so where can I get it lol, I am going to ring command tomorrow and try them. Would like a pointer if poss

cheers

Mick

It is the right part number, but MB dealers are not allowed to sell tools !

Speak to alfie (comand.co.uk) on this forum, he can do the update if you pop up to Woking which isn't too far from Winchester

We know the new part number (for once in advance!) but no dates - which is why we haven't had it in stock in comandonline for a couple of weeks as we don't really want to ship some a disk that will be out of date very quickly.
- In the past MB seem to have changed them with no notice, i.e one day a new version just arrives !!

- keep an eye on the COMAND-APS FAQ on Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits since thats where I put version number information when i have it in advance !

I own a second hand W211-2007 (E200 Kompressor) VIN No. WDB2110411B125180 with NTG 1 COMAND APS factory fitted in Europe. Everything works perfect except audio cds. The system recognize and play DVDs in MP3 format but don't recognize CDs either music or MP3. When inserting CD after a few seconds display the message "DVD error". Pushing AUDIO button two tabs appear" 1) RADIO (which is selectable) & 2) CD (which is fade and not selectable). In a few words the system plays perfect whatever is written on DVD-R disk (MP3 or video) but does not recognizes CDs. It behavies like to expect all the times to read only DVD disc...First owber is an old man and he cannot understand the difference (I think that never used CDs or DVDs!!!). My local official workshop checked the COMAND system by STAR and they said that everything looks normal, no error codes, so obviously the system does not support CDs!!!
When the unit is switching on the screen display's both logos of DVD disk and audio CD Disk, while the manual of course describe the CD operation as normal...I consider that MB technician is ignorant but I don't know what to do further... Anyone with similar problem? Any ideas?

Have you tried cleaning the laser with a CD/DVD cleaning disk ?

Sounds like the laser is failing ..

No, because play whatever is in DVD disk (video/mp3) and reporting "DVD error" on any kind of CD only (audio or mp3). I suppose that laser beam is one and then the software determines what type of disk has been inserted. It seems that the unit expect always to read from a DVD disk, so when CD is inserted after a while display the message "DVD error".

Hi,

First at all you CANT play mp3 CDs on DVD tray!
You can play only mp3 on DVD disk or Audio CDs.
Second inside Comand there are 2 type of lasers - 1 for DVD and 1 for CD.
Anyway try to play ORIGINAL audio CD to check is it OK.

Regards!

Thanks for your reply! I don't do anything with DVD unit in boot, this is exclusively for nav-dvd. Whatever I am saying concerns the slot of HU. I didn't knew that there 2 laser beams:eek: So probably the unit is defective in spite of MB diagnostic check which said that all are ok?? When a CD (700MB disk) is inserted and the "DVD error" being displayed then pushing AUDIO appeared the soft tab CD but is fade and not selectable...If so, it seems that I should put all my favorite CDs in a few DVD in mp3 format and finish :(

Clean the laser. It may not be defective just dirty which may well mean CD wont read but DVD will ..

Get a DVD cleaning disk, possibly one which comes with fluid to go on the little brushes, and use *tiny* amounts of the fluid, but run disk a few times

I'm not sure what equipment you have but in mine, I have a DVD drive above the screen which only plays original and copied DVDs. CDs do not work.

Then, under the screen, there is a 6 CD changer which is accessible via a small chrome button.

This only plays original and copied CDs.

DVD drive above the screen reads Audio CDs for sure.
My friend has Comand w/o changer and DVD drive reads Audio CDs.
My Comand is like yours w/ changer and DVD drive reads audio CDs too.

Might be I only tried copies in mine.

Thinking about it - I think they did play but were choppy so yes, it must do...

:thumb:

However, I transferred all my music to DVD and now have 6 discs which I change once every month or so.

Dear All thanks a lot for your comments! Yes I am sure that unit play both kinds by default without a CD changer. In a last effort I will use a cleaning disk and will see...

update: used a cleaningcd several times and manage to play a few CDs normally! As far as it starts playing everything is fully functioning but if cd ejected then the same cd may not be recognized through several attempts to play...obviously should be some hardware failure requiring drive replacement. let's see...awaiting price for a replacement drive and see

Ok, I suspect it needs someone to take the top off and clean the laser head with surgical spirit and a cotton bud. It may of course need a new laser, but since improvement has happened by cleaning, it could just be dirty still

Correct!
Don replace the whole drive!
Find a someone who can disassemble the Comand and clean the lasers heads.
Also! There are trimmers which control the laser beam! Just rotate the leaver clockwise.
I did that on PC and laptop DVDs and it really works!

Good luck!
