Command update disc

Thanks for the response(s) & so quick!!
I fully realise the legalities etc But I do have some DVD based music with slides attached which would be lost. Am I also right in thinking that with the Ipod kit the ipod controls are disabled and the only way to access control is via the steering wheel vol and tel buttons - The ipod just has a white screen with the Merc logo and "OK to diconnect" Further does anyone know if the Nav ver8.0 allows full postcode input as opposed to just the first 5 characters?
Again
many Thanks
GG

Postcode support is 5 characters in V8 and all others for that matter.

Ipod is only controllable from the steering wheel when plugged in to the car/interface.

Video in Motion enabled, take car and driver to scrapyard. Make driver watch as car is crushed so problem solved. Should result in some interesting posts as to how the police are victimising poor drivers, and make the roads safer for the rest of us law abiding thoughtfull drivers.

I love reading how wound up people get over tv in motion, not that i agree with it personally but i think it's blown out of proportion sometimes.

Anyway, if you just use it for listening to music then it wont be a problem because the video might block itself but the audio wont so it should be no issue at all.

Thank you Dans - a sensible reply which answers my query completely - I did not realise the audio kept playing

I have the Head Unit disk W211 589 06 22 00 - pm your address.

It won't work if your alreaday have a newer version of the s/w - i.e Rel 15/130 build 51/05 or Rel 21/090 build 30/06.

You have a pm regarding the navigation unit disk
Do you mind to share the disc with me because I couldn't find this disc in the USA dealer.

I am still looking for the disc. Anyone has W211 589 06 22 00 to share with?

Just pop along to your local dealer and order it. Its a few pounds thats all.
Thank you Alfie. I wish I could order it. In US, you can't order Euro parts since it doesn't exist in dealer's computer. Otherwise, I already order it.

Bought the disk, finally!

Thanks all,

I've finally bought the COMAND Update CD when I traveled to UK. My COMAND have ability to play MP3 in DVD format now.

Hi guys,

I've updated my Comand and DVD with:
COMAND_APS w211w219_UpdateCD_21.090
Nav Service DVD 211 589 15 22 00
But how to play MP3?
How to burn (in DVD disk in folders?) and where to play the DVD?
In trunk or in the head Comand unit?

Thanks in advance!

What was the part number of the Comand update disk ..

You may need the dealer to enable MP3 using Star diagnosis - search on this forum for the burn format for DVD. Played in the head unit. Trunk unit just for navigation ...

On your computer hard drive make a folder…

Let’s call it COMAND

Within this folder you can construct up to a maximum of 255 folders, but under no circumstances put folders within folders.

Within these folders you put your Mp3’s but do not over complicate this as your COMAND is extremely fussy and will reject anything complicated. Each folder can hold up to a maximum of 255 files. Once you have constructed all the files\folders then burn them onto a DVD or CD but only do this FROM WITHIN THE FIRST FOLDER. In other words open the folder called COMAND and then copy all the folders containing mp3’s onto the root of your disc.

If you are not successful then my guess is you will have made an error in either constructing the folders, or the Mp3’s. Any E-class built after approximately July 2004 that was ordered with COMAND will play Mp3’s. Vehicles built before that date will have had their systems upgraded when they were serviced at a Mercedes-Benz main dealer.

The upgrade for our early vehicles to paly Mp3's was not a specific upgrade to solely do this one task.. It wasa routine upgrade to improve the COMAND sysyem and as I said earlier this was done in the early summer of 2004. I find it unbelievable that a car built in either late 2003 up to possibly May 2004 will not have been to a main dealer for a service during its first two years of ownership?

:devil:My personal experience is that these early 211's were frequent visitors to main dealers during their early days of ownership :)
