The main concern was to enable MP3 playback. Video In-motion would have been great for the Menus, but is not worth the risk involved. Can Video In-motion be set via Star?

We've had the service upgrades - what they call campaigns, but never anything to the COMAND.

Even when it went in now, they had to replace some bolts on the front suspension as part of a campaign. I know there was one for the SBC and a few others. It would be interesting to find out how there are in total and how many have been carried out on our vehicle.

I'm baffled by what your saying, are you suggesting that no service upgrades have been carried out on this 2003 vehicle and it has only had recall work carried out? There has been any number of upgrades to the COMAND system, the only one that is not s servicing issue is the one we tend to describe as the ETA update. From what is being discussed that one is the only improvement that dealers will regularly not install but it has absolutely NOTHING to do with why 211's Will not play MP3's. I suspect there is more to what has happened than meets the eye??

Either your car has been correctly maintained by a main dealer, or it hasn't. If you have paid top dollar for the servicing of this vehicle then I would not be a happy bunny. Main dealer servicing is very expensive and if you have not been given a main dealer quality service then I would be screaming from the rafters and demanding answers. The service item to enable MP3 playing was released in early 2004 and if your vehicle has been regularly serviced by a Mercedes-Benz main dealer then the car has not been correctly maintained.

Inspection of bolts was a TSB issued way back in 2006 although there have been subsequent instructions regarding this.

The vehicle only has 44000km on the clock, so it doesn't go in very often, but it does go in at least once a year.

There have been a number of campaigns that needed to be done, but, I mentioned, none to upgrade the COMAND.

From the info I have, this seems to be the latest update for the W211 COMAND (you don't mean the navigation processor?). I wouldn't mind Alfie or Richard to confrm though.

I’ll be really very grateful if someone may help me.
I own a W211, MY ’04 (E320CDI, Avangard) with factory fitted COMAND APS. In Sept.2007 I bought a Version 6 of the Navigation map DVD from a MB Workshop. Prior to start the disk, they had to upgrade somehow the Comand Head Unit or Navi-unit (but I am not sure did they do it for the both units or upgraded only one of them, because the technicians of MB did not look very familiar with this specific matter). Few days ago I get form a friend of mine his newer v7 Map DVD (the original one, not a burned copy) , but my Comand system did not recognize it. Is it possible my SW/Firmware to be not up to date? How may I check which is the present SW/Firmware version installed on my Comand APS? The HU plays perfectly MP3-s burned on DVD-R. The Navi doesn’t show ETA.

I managed the problem I just get the newest Version 8 (2008) for Comand APS NTG1. Now it's working properly. Thanks to all who wanted, but missed to reply my prev. post

Sorry, I missed your earlier question.

There are two updates for comand in the W211. One is for the nav processor which it sounds like you dont need or already have, the other is for the Head unit.

I have been following this thread wih interest and wonder I might ask a question? I have a 05/05 E270cdi which came with an Audio 20. I have now had a comand system retro fitted by a chap in Leicester (Recommended on this site who was great). It all works fine with Mp3s playing, Ipod integration and Ver7.0 navigation. I can access the engineering menu, but have only done so to check whether I can! At present video in motion (DVD) is enabled but ETA is only avaliable by pressing the top left soft key twice in Map mode. If I were to do the 07 (w211 589 13 2200) patch/upgrade to enable ETA to be visible constantly in the map mode, will I lose the DVD in motion function?

Yes you would. There are means to get it back if you feel it really necessary. I would just do the update.

Why do you want video in motion??? It is illegal to use it so why risk a fine etc

And the excuse - I dont look at it - it's for my kids wouldn't wash with Mr PC..if you can see it it's illegal..

I fully realise the legalities etc But I do have some DVD based music with slides attached which would be lost. Am I also right in thinking that with the Ipod kit the ipod controls are disabled and the only way to access control is via the steering wheel vol and tel buttons - The ipod just has a white screen with the Merc logo and "OK to diconnect" Further does anyone know if the Nav ver8.0 allows full postcode input as opposed to just the first 5 characters?
