Congestion Charge Hits Petrol Cars

Hi Hawk,

The secure walkway
Please note I am NOT suggesting a secret underground tunnel linking the Prime Minister's residence to the Palace complex and that is all I am saying. Hopefully I have chosen my words carefully.

My previous post is correct.

seasonal greetings,
John

If you really had priviledged information about secret tunnels you wouldn't be giving them away would you?

Oh and by the way, in your posting number 27 you said, and I quote:
"Whilst I'm at it how do they justify a convoy of gas guzzlers going the very short distance from Downing Street to the Palace of Westminster (House of Commons) There is a secure walkway that can be used, .."

Drive in London alot, con charge works well, Has certainly had the desired effect.

We now operate a small fleet of LPG Vans and therfore only pay the con charge when I go into town.

As far as this new charging goes, I forget the dates but in the future, old highly polluting vans and lorries are to be charged £100 a day, and this zone will extend out to the inside of the M25!

Deep joy for small haulage companies.

Yes I had some information through the post about this for a consultation about it. Looking at the dates though the majority of opperators should be running compliant vehicles 2012 I think  If they are running older vehicles then they probably shouldnt be in business anyway.

I've got a Clio 1.2...

Converted to LPG, cost me about £400, but it's saved me alot more...

4x4's are nice vehicles...but I get sick of seeing people drive them around London, they're wide and the drivers often try to be intimidating (Though I often turn my lights and engine off if a 4x4 doesn't move out of the way or reverse back in a road if its my right of way). No offence to the ladies on here, but women 4x4 drivers are the worst. They park next to you, slam their doors into your car, then walk off, or they just take up the wole road.

Big cars, S-classes, etc, I haven't a problem with them at all, but 4x4's...Nice, but not in Central London man, it's congested as it is. :|

I reckon Ken's targetting 4x4's as 'Big cars', not Saloon cars like S's and E's.

Brilliant :D

Why thank you. I just feel the need (every now and again) to remind people that (despite popular misconceptions), the world revolves around the sun, not London. :D

Actually, I am down there most weeks and the congestion charge is working brilliantly in the City of London. All the cheapskate cars have been priced out of the market.....there is no need for me to visit expensive car dealerships anymore....:bannana:

Yes; isn't it ironic to see a socialist Mayor, pricing lower income people off the roads so the better off can carry on using their cars as before, but with less congestion from the 'workers'.

And next the Labour government plans to price them off the main highways as well. Oh to be rich in England now that Labour's here.

My posting was slightly tongue in cheek. You're right though, a socialist mayor that is doing more for the rich in the name of the poor - barmy isn't it?

I wonder if they'll drop the exemption for Hybrids now people are beginning to realise they are not as good as diesel and in the case of the Lexus 4x4 the emissions are in the band G high category.
