Hi I had some new ContiSportContact 3's fitted to my CLK rear wheels about a year ago, I have covered around 13,000 miles on them and they only have 3MM left so need changing again soon.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience of the Continental ContiSportContact 5 or the Michelin Pilot Primacy HP? I want something that is going to give me a longer life.

All 3 of the above are MO approved so I want to stick to the MO mark if possible.

Thanks

I had the Conti 3s on my CLK from new. The rears did around 22,000 miles. Fronts around 27,000 and needed replacing due to cracking on the side walls. I replaced them with the Pilot primacy. So far around 25,000 on the rears and 4mm tread left. On my limited sample I would say the Michelins last better.

From my experience I agree michelins last longer but contis perform better. I have Contis on all our cars except the clk you cant compromise on tyres and for me it doesnt get better than Continental

I've got 5Ps on the rear and really pleased but only a couple of months in so can't really comment on wear. I've had PS3s before and the contis do seem to grip better in the wet.

I've found the Michelin (PS3s) not only grip better than Contis (SC3s), but also last longer and make less noise - even when on the way out.

Hi John I agree with you

Ive had Conti 3's and Conti 5's and got 7000 miles out of them and they were completely finished

I am running Michelin Pilot Super sports at present and the rears are down to 3-4 mm but ive covered approx 10,000 miles which as a percentage represents a fair bit more

re noise and performance id say there wasnt much in it however the Michelins performed better on a track day ( or i am improving )

Id give the Michelins a try, they may be expensive but you wont be unhappy with them

Thanks guys... All food for thought

l had conti contacts on the vito with 60ks on them but decided to no get another set because the originals were german made and the one imported to oz were asia.they dont last. only from past examples. Also my experience with michelin made in spain v thailand made they do not last. both passanger car and on motorcycles. It may vary were tires are made and what country gets the real deal.

My 209 CLK came with P Zero's which vanished after just 7000miles. I switched to Michelin PS3's and found they lasted longer (did a further 9000miles and they still had around 4mm left) and gripped better.

Supersports may be overkill but saying that prices are very close for PS2/PS3/PSS.

Continental tyres seem to develop a problem after theyre a year old, the rubber seems to become porous, to the point where they'll lose half their pressure every 7-10 days !

did you get lemon tires losing air pressure?
maybe it was the bad air valve leaking?

I have euro manufactured C-SPC3 and had them for about 2 years, I have been more than pleased with them.
Bought them from german Ebay.
I will always stick with Conti tires.

However my tires are not MO stamped.
I bet this is something not to worry about?
Tires supplied to MB factory are MO stamped, tires for aftermarket does not have MO stamp.
Still same tire or not???

Hmmm, you'd think that at least one of their 170,000 employees would spend some of that 1.3 billion Euro profit to have a look at that ;).

None in the sets I've been running continually for the last 5 years have done that.

It is my understanding that AMG are to major on Continentals......that of course may or may not be significant......it could be simply a commercial arrangement along the same sort of lines that I imagine they have with Mobil.
