Continental SportContact vs Michelin Pilot

Continental for me, but then I get them stupidly cheap. Annoyingly they don't do anything for the 17" split rims on the SL though :(

I appreciate that the OP did not include Dunlop in his question but ''on paper'' the Dunlop Sport Maxx GT looks to be a very good quiet tyre and with MO specification.

Anyone?

Excellent tyre, will have far less balance issues throughout its life and is less lickly to become misshaped, will provide more grip and feel, won't snap out like the Mich does and is more progressive on its limit's, however, it won't cover as many miles and will produce a firmer ride as it more sport orientated hence its stronger sidewalls...

I changed from Conti sport 3's to 5's on my w204 c class c 220 sport. I can only describe the Contact Sport 5 as complete and utter rubbish compared to the 3's, the noise is mad, the car tramlines and the grip just simply is not as good. If I had the spare cash, I'd get them replaced with 3's.

All 3 of the above are MO approved so I want to stick to the MO mark if possible.
Thanks

Don't waste money on MO tyres, it means very little. Get a set of Falken ZE 912's or 914's. They will cost far less than the ones you mention and you will not know the difference. I've had Conti's, Goodyear and Bridgestones, none of them were worth paying more than the Falkens for. In fact the Bridgestones were the worst of the lot, a tyre ten years past it's prime living on name only.

For my pennys worth, when I inherited the conti 3's on my 55 from purchase, the rear end would let go regularly on the slight smell of damp road, and I am very reserved in my driving on public roads, I swapped out to michelin PPS, they are brillant, I have track dayed and Vmaxed these tyres, occassionily in damp conditions, never let me down. Just my experience, I will always fit the Michelins over any other tyre, but think everyone has their own experiences.

I have found that if your getting a premium tyre the MO's are the same price as the non-MO's so I have just gone with them.

I think I am going to go with the Michelin.

I don't always think the standard factory fit tyres are always the best. My last Audi came with Dunlop from the factory I found they were not as good as other premium brands out there.

What mileage do you get from your PPS's Rick ?

Afraid I could,nt really tell you that Peter, never taken alot of notice regards wear, just get new put on when needed. But what I would say, car is on 43K miles now, current set are the third set, first OEM where conti's, second set MPS, and currently MPS with 3-4mm left, and a few trackdays where on the 2nd set and current as well, so not that bad in my eyes.

Just replaced my rears again with MPS3s. I think MPS2s were available in that size for £20 more but I couldn't be bothered to find out if they were Porsche fitment only.

What a tyre.

My 209 CLK came with P Zero's which vanished after just 7000miles. I switched to Michelin PS3's and found they lasted longer (did a further 9000miles and they still had around 4mm left) and gripped better.

Supersports may be overkill but saying that prices are very close for PS2/PS3/PSS.

Are the Michelin Supersports considered to be the cream of the crop? I am trying to decide between Michelin Supersport, Continental Contisport 2 and Toyo Proxus T1 sport. All similarly priced.

Can't comment on the other tyres. But I've noticed a huge improvement from pilot sports to super sports.

MPSS highly recommended.
