Crashed my car - Think its a write off

Walking away is always good.

Damage looks like a good 1500, new wing, bonnet, headlight and bumper plus painting plus anything else that needs replacing...could be 2k.

If the airbags are not blown the car might not be written off, thats what causes the problems on a salvage rebuild,if they did blow thats why you are talking to us today
wish you all the best
Alan

 Glad to hear your ok.It does look a nasty mess from the pics but all that can be repaired in the end.My old c class was very tail happy at times even with new tyres on the back, and that caused many a tail slide going around roundabouts and having to go all the way around and try again for my exit so I know how you must feel.Maybe it is a good excuse to upgrade your car now ;)

Sorry to hear of your accident Killerhertz and glad you came out okay.

Without wishing to be negative, its highly likely your W202 will be written off as repair costs only need to come to around half the book value of the car before the insurers decide that its beyond economical repair, and Mercedes are never cheap to repair.

If this is the case you have a limited time window to strip off the salvagable bits from your car, making sure you replace them with the original bits if you have them, else the insurance assessor will value your car considerably lower.

A good place to start would be the wheels. If you have your old non-AMG wheels, then put them on before the insurance assessor comes round. Even if you end up not buying a car the wheels will fit, you'll still be able to sell them on eBay or similar. Likewise, if you have upgraded the stereo by all means remove the upgraded stereo, but be sure to replace it with a spare. Its important to replace the parts though otherwise the assessor will value your car as if it didn't have wheels, or a stereo, etc.

I wrote my 300E off on a wet slip road in 2001 so I know what you're going through, how quickly it happens and how for all the skills in the world there is nothing you can do. I'll never forget the horrible feeling of watching it being winched onto the recovery truck. Made me vow to never buy a car without ESP!

Once again glad you're okay and we're all here to help advise you on what to buy next. :)

 sorry to hear of your bad luck, Glad to hear your ok though. hope you get things sorted for the best ;)

Dear killerHERTZ, I would like to add my support to you.

As said I'm glad you are OK!!:) That's the real important thing!

As far as the car you'll solve for sure!

Mitchams Corner

Used to live near there !! I know the corner well ( and went to school in Cambs)...

Glad your Ok - and that your car did as it was designed to do.

Looks border line repair or salvage to me, as the price of W202's is quiet low.
Unless you're really attached to this particular car, go for another one, (the insurance won't give you a choice, but you can always ask to buy back the car) Face lift with Ac, etc, and salvage anything you can from yours.

Did airbag go off ? - any damage to in the cabin or roofline ?

I'm glad you're OK.

I expect it was slippy after the long dry spell, and an S bend gets the weight transfer going. The damage doesn't appear too extensive, but as has already been said, you will be weighing it up against the value of the car.

It's only metal. And hours of TLC...

Glad you are not hurt!

I still have the rear 'cursed' bumper off his wrecked motor fitted.
Please allow me to apologise to you again for selling you cursed car parts! :(

Echo what has been said previously about recovering any modifications or additions (especially ones not-declared to the insurance) not because they will refuse to pay out but because they were not insured in the first place thus the insurers are not entitled to them. You can get away with removing the headunit without replacement, this will not be assessed as part of the value but everything else should be present.

So sorry to see pics of another fine example of a W202 in a beaten-up state :(

Glad you are OK Karl - thats what matters. Cars can almost always be replaced - people can't.

Cars come and go mate but all that matters is that you are O.K. As others have said, the damage does not look too bad but if the insurers write it off, go treat yourself to a newer model.

Good Luck,

Asif.

Hi Killerhertz
Sad to hear about the incident, THANK GOODNESS no one was on the footpath when this happened. None of us are perfect and I suppose we could all say there but for the grace of you know who.

The most important thing for all of us is to learn from it. Okay that wall has been demolished several times, but if the road was excessively slippery then on that day, at that time there would have been literally piles of cars slamming into your poor vehicle. Just look at racing when oil gets dumped onto the track, cars go off like there is no tomorrow?

If you were not speeding, then do you have low profile tyres? We all no doubt like these wheels but in adverse conditions they will not do you, or anyone else any favours. If you do not have low profiles, then there must be a reason why!!!

Shock is not very nice at all..... Talk about this incident, talk about this incident and above all talk about it :) :) and laugh it off. Most important, laugh it off, you were hurt, no one else was hurt apart from the wall, that is clearly deceased, and unfortunately your car, may or may not join it.

Life goes on and there is another car, and perhaps another wall?? ;) ;) just waiting for you to come along. I was going to begin my post by saying 'Hi Killer-wall' (but the humour might have been lost before I explained about trying to laugh this incident off) It is an event which must be taken seriously, but shock needs to be flushed out of your system. ;)

Take care and good luck,
John

Glad you're OK. Accidents tend to appear worse than they really are - the damage looks fairly minor - that said IMO it will be written off as there will probably be inner wing damage - an approved repairer will probably charge £3k minimum. You may have the option to buy the salvage which could be worth your while?

ouch, sorry to hear abt your mishap, when i first got my C36, the bridgestone tyres it had on it were terrible, after replacing, the grip was much better, out of interest, what tyres you running?

also as already said, salvage what you can! It def looks like a write off, as book value on a 95 202 is poor!

Alps beat me to it with the question about the tyres on the car? Do you happen to know what depth they had? Some people are saying change at 3mm, not 2mm. I suspect that is just too kind to tyre manufacturers.

First ever car accident I was in, aged 13, was an hour after the first rain in a long time. It produced a film of floating oil, tyre dust, etc, which reduces traction far more that frequent rain. Luckily for me we just shunted another car after a long skid – both of them were yank tanks so there was no damage.

Regards,

Tim

Sorry to hear of your accident bud. Shame about the car, but as long as your unhurt...

On a brighter note you might be driving a facelift model soonish :)

Glad you ok.

Needs bonnet, bumper, wing and headlight. Doesn't even look like it needs to go on a jig.

Not too bad to repair, though bonnet won't be cheap.

Wish I could accurately diagnose mechanical problems and necessary repairs based on a few dark pictures on a website. ;)
