Dash board lighting

I have an Email class W212 estate and my question is. Is there any way to get the instrument lights (Speedo rev counter etc etc)to be permanently on as mine will only come on with the side light position on the light switch or when the auto lights turn on. It is some times difficult to see the dials but clearly not dark enough for the auto mode to bring them on. I have also noticed that the headlights/instrument lights come on first followed by the radio and heater controls as the night gets darker. All my other vehicles have the dials etc permanently illuminated. Any suggestions

Sounds faulty to me, but that said it's not something I have taken much notice of.

Certainly the back lights all come on at the same time.

I don't find my instruments hard to read.

I'm sure someone with more technical knowledge will come along soon.

Nope, not faulty. When the headlights first come on, only the instrument cluster lights up. When it goes darker the rest of the backlighting comes on and instrument cluster dims just a tad to adjust for the eyes.
As for permanently on, do not believe such function is available. Either have lights on all the time and cluster on or nothing. Maybe someone with STAR may be able to advise otherwise, if it is something to be coded as such.
