Defrosting cars in the morning

This week I've been putting picnic blankets (with the waterproof underside) on the screen and makes for a much quicker departure. Completely clear screen this morning despite -10 deg C this morning when I left.

-21 this morning @ 9.00am,took a while to defrost the car, diesel beginning to get a "bit lumpy"

Regarding engines ticking over, I was always told that oil pumps are not efficient at low revs (tick over), especially with cold oil but even when warm too. Any engine left to tick over for longer than necessary will suffer from top end engine wear at some point.

At MB World F1 day last year, it was explained that MB have two safety cars at every F1 race and that they have to sit with the engine running at all times during the race in case their involvement is required urgently. As the engine is ticking over they are both fitted with extra oil pumps to ensure adequate oil supply to the top end of the engine.
