Disappointed with my car. Respect to the 335d!

I had a 335d new back in 2007. I had it remapped by Evolve to 365bhp and 570lb/ft, it did 13.2-13.3 sec 1/4 miles at Santa Pod and 167mph at VMax. It featured in BMW Car Mag in a shootout with standard and tuned 335d & 335i's. It was on a par with an E90/92 M3 (414bhp) from s standing start to 160mph. On the move it would always have the edge but would never pull a big gap. At Santa Pod the M3's were doing similar 1/4's if launched well, the M5's (500bhp) were doing 12.5-12.7 sec 1/4's. On the move an M5 would struggle to drop the 335d.

I would expect a remapped C63 to be quicker than the 335d, not by that much but enough to be able to reel it in.

Jules.

my C55 does the 1/4 in the same time. A Stock C63 is high 12's.

Back in 2008 I competed in Fighting Torque in my CSL (I had actually forgotten about this until a mate reminded me) and I went head to head with a mapped 335d Touring, the CSL was mapped/delimited as well and I did managed to pip him on a couple of runs, but overall the 335s was faster... There was also a couple of 2008 C63s so makes some interesting reading. (Maybe a little out of date)... :-)

Talking about BMW Diesel engines, I here that the 50d (only available in x5 or x6 in UK) is also a 3.0 litre engine with triple turbos!!! How fast would that be?

Just back from the continent and spotted 2 of these in 5 series ..they were badged M550d

IIRC about 380bhp stock

Yup wish they'd put that engine in the 7 series

What you playing at BMW:wallbash:

Is this some sort of joke?

Not sure how a 500+ bhp V8 AMG could be out accelerated by a diesel albeit a twin turbo one... Even if it was a modded / remapped 335d still confusing.

Bit of a mystery really!

If this was me, on a serious note. I'd sell my C63 immediately. I know deisel cars are fast nowadays but a mapped C63 should be seeing it off, esp at 3 figure speeds...
Physics is such a b!tch huh? :D

in ideal conditions, At North weald they were doing 14s struggling with traction:crazy:
C55s have major traction issue, they desperately need an LSD.

In my SLK55 I managed 12.8 @ 110mph and had wheel spin at the start, so with better tyres I'm sure that time could be improved?

So the dear old 55K won they day in the heaviest car, with very diesel like low down torque....

Forgot about this, the 335d was mine! I remember the C63's struggling with traction badly on the launches, I raced the slower one of the two and pulled about a 10 car length gap off the start but was being reeled in at the end. The other C63 was faster on times as the owner improved his starts and was around a second faster than the other C63. Both cars were new and standard.

Jules.

Yeah at Santa pod, I posted a thread on here somewhere..

I wasn't totally happy with the time, I went hoping for 12.6sec - traction was also an issue for me, I had wheel spin in all my runs. :(

I'll take the 911 C4S there soon, hoping for early 12s

Really? i reckon your slk is faster over the 1/4 unless your Porsche is tunned of course ;)

911 is faster, quite a bit faster.
My 911 is 4wd and has more power and allot faster transmission, slk doesn't stand a chance, SLK still sounds nicer though ;)

Prefer the 55, can't beat an AMG engine. Nice colour too :)

Hardly anything in it on the track. Always funny to see the SLK55 win out on track over a C63 too :)

It's not as if Blue Peter badges are being handed out for the winner of every race.

Yes there's going to be someone faster out there.

In the end it's how the car makes you feel and how you enjoy what the car can deliver.

I loved everything about my 740d BUT it was lifeless and souless, the AMG just makes you happy every single time you step on it. I filled up the 7 once every 2 weeks but with the E63 I'm filling up twice a week. There's good and bad points in every car. I found the 7 really comfy no matter where I went but the AMG is more hardcore and sometimes too hardcore for my liking but when I get bored I'll chop it in for something else.

Just depends what you want out a car I suppose.

Lifes too short, enjoy

Sometimes things don't turn out as you'd expect.

I had a 320d whoop me from the lights in my E320 CDi V6 with a Brabus chip, meaning I was running c100bhp more than him - I assume it was tuned or not a 320d, even though it had a single pipe.

Recently I took a run up to Scotland and my brother came along in his Alfa 159 JTD with a (relatively lowly) 201bhp.
On a couple of occasions I gave my c600bhp bi turbo the beans and when I eased off and looked up in the mirror expecting to see a red Alfa dot, there he was, charging up behind me quicker than I'd have expected :dk:.

Conversely, I had a "motorway speed ;)" run in recently with a 335d X drive estate and it was easy peasy to stay ahead, despite his best efforts :thumb:.

There are many variables these days, with mapping being increasingly common on enthusiast's motors (i.e the 335d) - ask Acid at MSL and Paul at Eurocharged .
