Disappointed with my car. Respect to the 335d!

Boy racers rarely grow up, they just get wealthier. Hence the need for AMGs.

Unleash the hellfire! ;)

i grew side ways !:D

Just thought I'd share my experience as I was impressed by the performance and felt my fellow AMG owner needed to be comforted a little.
Would like to add , I'm no boy racer , but I love driving my car the way I feel it should be driven, FAST! I don't use comfort mode and I don't moan about my mpg or rave on about the many poor drivers I come across on my travels. I consider myself safe and considerate and I'm always courteous to others on the road.Never had an accident but have a few points on the licence like many others.I drive cars , vans ,trucks and motorcycles and cover over 60k miles per year .I have to say the majority of bad drivers in my opinion are Lorry drivers especially tipper drivers, Coach drivers especially through contra flows 50 mph limit. !!! and generally middle aged men who have an AMG , M3 or RS missing in there lives and don't like the fact you have one and think there insignia Sri is fast( granted they are quite nippy)
Ps yes I have a small one but I don't have an AMG to make up for it!

These fast diesels are amazing, they are fast and they are incredibly fuel efficient, but they don't really feel that fast as they're simply not vocal enough.

Speed without noise is like taste without smell.

Not as good as V8 AMGs but have to say SQ5 doesn't sound too bad given its a V6. Think best sounding diesel I've ever come across. I haven't heard the old VW V10 or LR V8 diesels in person and you ll never be able to rev like a petrol but with proper acoustic tuning V8+ diesels could potentially sound quite nice.

I have the A6 with the same engine, and it sounds great in dynamic mode when ambling around, but when you really go for it that raucous rumble disappears, into an almost silent, very distant diesel thrum. The Audi is supremely capable, stupidly quick, ridiculously fuel efficient, but rarely feels as quick as it really is.

I really should line it up against an AMG to see how close it is in terms of pace.

Please don't line it up against an AMG, the forum will go into melt down if you get the VAG close to the Merc !!!

Nowhere near, but I do love the Audi gearboxes, so much better than the mercs. I find my others halfs TT much more planted than my SLK too. Growing more and more toward an R8.

Past car was Audi S8 and Audi A8 4.0tdi. The Diesel, once tuned, was/felt quicker off the mark due to high torque but was let down by handling at high speeds. The V10 was a different story around back roads but the aggressive looks were all that impressed as the sound through the rev range let it down. with some ££££ spent on exhaust mods I can imaging it would have been the perfect family car to blast around in.

Tuned Diesel cars are nothing to be frowned upon, serious power straight out of the factory nowadays ;)

It would be interesting to see how near (or not) it would be.

I have the ZF 8 speed transmission in mine, and it's a remarkable piece of engineering.

A car I sometimes drive is the BMW 730ld. couple of years old, that motor is seriously good. Not as smooth as the S Class diesel and not impressive at round town speeds, but when you give it proper welly it transforms and I have to say it sounds really good then for a diesel. Handles awesome too. The gearbox is fantastic. Lovely interior.

Still rather have the S though, it feels more special :-)

Audi auto box's are weak, used to sell one a month easy when i worked for VAG

Was that the slushies or multitronic CVTs or both?

Never had any issues with stability on the SLK55 maybe check your tyres, or better fit Coilovers, 140 feels like 60 now ;)

I did consider an R8 V10 before I bought my 911, I borrowed a friends one for a week, it was lovely, however gearbox was really jerky at low speeds and overall the 911 drove allot better for me.

It had the automated 'manual' transmission which reminded me of an SMG on the M3s, really pants.

Only one I can find of the R8 with the wife,

I would personally take an SL63 over an R8, not too keen on them.

I don't think you get the same smile on the inside when you turn the key on a 335d when compared to the C63, and you definitely don't get the same noise. Just go on holiday, come back, turn the key and see if it makes you happy.

Hadn't driven mine for whole week and took it for a great drive, just for fun today!
