disaster with Alfa purchase!

apparently, legal-wise i need to give the garage 2 chances of repair before i can reject the car.

main problem i have is that the MOT failure issues are only half the work we want done. garage has agreed to do the other stuff mainly because its almost MOT-failure and also stuff agreed to previously prior to purchasing that took longer than expected to arrive from Alfa. if i go via the "official" channels i would expect them to just fix what they have to fix, rather than all the stuff that we have asked for, although some stuff is written on our reciept, but i can see it being a long drawn out process rather than hopefully a week of them fixing and returning the car. in addition to all that i really need to shift the picasso ASAP but dont want to until we are certain that the alfa is staying!

i have been dealing with the main boss their since the sale.

but if they dont sign and agree to what they have already agreed to verbally over the phone then i'll go to VOSA & trading standards - the whole issue is really annoying me now, i'm also £50 more out of pocket after the new MOT and wife is upset and also we are both stressed on it causing arguments. + the SL is also getting used in the rain which i didnt want to do if i could help it.

yes I can imagine - stay calm and focus on several weeks from now when it will all be sorted and just become one of the learnings of life - we have all been there in different ways at different times - I know I have kicked myself before for either doing or not doing something. Whilst it is hassle all that has happened is that you have swapped cash in the bank for a car - you still have your other cars to use so it is not like you are without transport.
Thing is to be clear, up front (no need to be impolite) and firm with the garage - explain that you want no misunderstandings and that is why you have written it all down - I would still construct the letter (agreement) as giving them one chance (rather than two) to put the car right or it is a refund. Surely they would rather do this than face the wrath and consequences of a VOSA inspection - and by the way I do not see why they should not pay for the new MOT as the one they provided was the cause of the aggro to start with.

they are supplying a courtesy car when they collect the alfa to do the work.

they are paying for the re-test. i too think they should pay for the new MOT but if they fix what they say they will then i'll be satisfied.

If you do not really NEED the courtesy car then it would show a bit of goodwill on your part to save them the expense of that. You may even be able to get the better tyres as part of the deal.

i do need it though and they offered it. i dont see why i should put my SL in the rain for their problems. i've already shown them enough goodwill not going straight to VOSA.

One of their cars ?

Has it an MOT ? :D

Hi Derek,

Just caught up with this.
Don't worry about getting them to sign something, you already have a contract with them when you made the purchase.
It would make sense for your peace of mind to send a recorded letter to them seperately from handing over the car detailing events so far as you see them and the remedy you are now expecting (worklist) and what they have agreed to.
They can ignore it/refute it it makes no difference as long is it is delivered to them as you are doing it to outline your case if the remedy doesn't work.
If the car still isn't up to scratch after you get it back then quote back to them what was agreed and ask if they will rectify (once more).
You can then take the appropriate steps from there...

P.S. My Mum might be interested in your Picasso!

the garage has signed the letter and is fixing as we speak - hopefully will be all OK in the end!

PM me re-picasso :thumb:

Sounds a reasonable outcome - they've accepted your terms and are cracking on with repairs. Hope that the car turns out to be the pleasure you anticipated before this all kicked off.
