Hi Mercedes dealer serviced my car at 41,1000 miles.
2012 C220 estate AMG Sport Plus styling. S205

Said the discs and pads need replacing. Yes I agree the pads need replacement but not sure about discs?

The Service report says this...

Discs minimum 26mm
Discs Front left measures 25.6mm
Discs Front right measures 25.5mm

Front brake pads are 50% lipped both sides left and right.

Rear Brake pads are 80% lipped.

They have recommended I replace all 4 discs and pads at a cost of £750.

Seems a little too much £££.

I was thinking of just getting the rear brake pads replaced immediately as they show 80% lipped on the report. Leaving the front discs and pads for a few months as I'm low mileage careful 'captain slow' style of driver. Annual mileage is about 6000 miles.

What do you think I should do? Will this fail MOT next week?
Also what pads should i buy - genuine MB pads, Pagid, Textar EBC etc?

I will get the work done at a local garage and buy my own parts. (Merc charge too much labour)

Thanks

I've never heard of a brake PAD being lipped before, that term is usually applied to the discs. Or perhaps I've led a very sheltered existence?

They said the same to me with figures not far out from yours including the price

Car is currently at an Indy today for new discs and pads, we agreed on using Pagid

Not sure how much it will be but I'll let you know shortly, it also went in for its MOT this morning at 8am before the brake work started. Haven't heard anything so I'm guessing it flew through (touch wood!)

Do a visual check yourself. If you are satisfied there is enough material on the pads then do ...nothing. They will only fail then if they fail to retard enough.

I'm of the same opinion as Gordon Tarling, never heard of lipped pads.

New one on me too.

As long as the brakes work ok it shouldn't be a problem with the MOT.

Get a quote off a MB Indie specialist, much cheaper than main stealer prices.
If you say where you're located someone may be able to recommend an Indie.

Thanks for replies. Maybe I'm reading their report wrong when I see the term "lipped" - perhaps it refers to discs.

I'm located in Bristol. Not sure if there's any good independents around here?

Did a quick search on here and found the following... a couple of members posted positive comments about them a few years ago, but I have no idea how good they are.
Hopefully someone will be along to add recommendations or post details of someone else.

Can't find a website for them.

Car flew through the MOT, and they replaced something with the handbrake I can't remember what he said without looking at the receipt

£601 in all, and a car wash :thumb:

Go for an Indy mate, much more personal and cheaper. I only deal with the dealership for servicing

I realise that not everyone wants or needs to do their own repairs, but for me it's simple, you can get all the parts from an Oem supplier for less than £200, take them to any garage you trust, not necessarily linked to mb, and for another £100 - £150 have the job done. It takes two hours max incl servicing the handbrake shoes.

Edit~ was £681 not £601

As above grab the OEM stuff and have them fitted, as long as it's by a competent person it's fine
