Dronsfields customer service

If people don't know how scrapyards work (and why should they?), then the pictures are misleading......

I agree .

However , in the advert ( remember not everyone has heard of them or knows what sort of operation they are ) Dronsfields portray themselves as 'Independent Mercedes Specialists' and not 'a scrpayard' so by advertising something and illustrating it in a photograph , without any form of disclaimer , it is misleading at the very least if you do not get what is shown in the photograph .

Hello, I have just read all the posts on this thread, and I have to say that if the picture is what they show they are selling (and no disclaimers) then that is what you should receive.
The fact about the airbag being an explosive is not the buyers problem in my eyes, regards Damian.

PS - They could offer to send you the airbag FOC as a gesture of goodwill ? :)

Visit any scrapyard (well, all the 10+ ive been to) and you will see the kind of people you are dealing with :o

Did you ask me, Druk, BTB 500, A210 AMG, and SilverSaloon before taking a photo of us at the last GTG??!!

;) :D

Hi DJC013, see post 13

Hmm, tough one, the ad says steering wheel - that in my experience of buying dozens of these on ebay uk and Germany implies the steering wheel only. Airbags are usually expensive and the type required for this wheel would usually command an extra 30 quid or so, and if it's included they usually state that airbag is included.

As an example, if you phoned MB for a steering wheel they'd only supply a steering wheel - no airbag.

I think i might have a spare airbag that is for this type of steering - if i find it, i'll PM you, yours for zero charge.

The picture 'implies' it is with it, & the description does nothing to tell you otherwise. Anything for sale on e-bay has to be 'as described'

Talbir, thanks for your kind offer, but as i said in post 11,i dont think i actually need it.

Recently bought a heater control unit off Dronsfields, it was cracked and damaged. I emailed them with a photo of it and the very next day I had a replacement. I cant fault their service, but their products arent always in the best condition though...

Maybe a netutal feedback, I wouldnt leave a negative though mate!

They sent you a damaged unit and you can't fauly their service?

Sending out damaged parts is a Dronsfield speciality. How are they still in business?

Does the add say a steering wheel /steering wheel with air bag? What did you bid for exactly. Fitted free dinner and fuel to get home?

2 sides to this on

1. steering wheels in general do not come with airbags
2. Picture shows airbag, and no-where does it say airbag not included

i would go the paypal dispute route, as item is not as described, you WILL get a full refund upon sending it back

I don't use Dronsfields that much but anytime i have used them, i have got perfect parts.

I have nil complaints on their service, but emphasise that my experience is limited. However, the value of parts i have purchsed from them over the years is iro £2k, so not bad for them to deliver that value of goods without complaint.

I think it was probably oversight not to state that the airbag was not included, or they should have pictured it without the airbag. I don't think it's deliberate or intentional, not for something that has a small value in this instance.

cheers

Dronsfields seem to operate on the "Bugger the happy buying experience thing, just make as money as you can with the least amount of effort... The world is full of customers" business plan, which is probably OK most of the time.

Looking st Dronsfield's neg & neutral feedback for their latest ebay ID (they closed their previous one down when the negative % got to be too bad) they seem to have previous form for sending items not as described or for substituting another item for the one in their listing's photo. That said, the majority of their customers seem to have been satisfied.

Leaving a neutral has no effect on their feedback score or in ebay's eyes. It's meaningless.

How would a non-tekky newcomer know what conventions scrappys use?

Dronsfield don't describe themselves as a scrapyard but, as others have pointed out, an independant specialist. They offer for sale a steering wheel and publish a picture of it. How is Joe Soap supposed to know that the big bit in the middle isn't part of the steering wheel? If it's not part of it then why show it as such?

Stick to your guns as a matter of principle.

I see what you mean but the picture was taken with the wheel still on the car,is that mean that the car is included to?Is not like he is buying a wheel from an old car that is one piece, but the airbag is a diff part.

It is somewhat misleading but it does say steering wheel no mention of the Airbag. The best you may hope for from them is a refund and return the item at cost imho and they are a nightmare to deal with.

paypal will refund once Dronsfield say they have the item returned in good order, which leaves you open to them abusing the position...

At £175 you may expect to receive the complete wheel and airbag but, being in the Motortrade I would not.

We can all argue the points but bottom line is the steering wheel worth the price paid to you?
If yes put it down to experience, If no return it but dont let it take up to much of your time.

BTW I would not want to start the new year arguing with those lot...

Hi dw124, ^ thats exactly why i put this post up,because i realise there are two ways to look at this. :thumb:

Look man:After all you got a good deal and post some pic once you`ve put it on.Is not like you need it anyway.I`m gona put mine this weekend

It isnt as described. Put in a paypal claim for it as not as described and if no luck, negative feedback should follow.

Tell them that you intend to do this 1st to give them a chance to sort it out.... you should get a free 'bag.

If you get it, then no feedback or pos. fb should then be left, marking them down on "as described" detailed seller rating.

i've sent lots of airbags in the post. if its sent via a courior who is covered to carry such an airbag there shouldnt be a problem. just because Royal cockup, oh i mean Mail, doesnt do it doesnt mean it cant be sent.

besides, i've successly sent several airbags without issue with RM inside and outside of the UK.

Saying all that, its not a bad price for a wood & leather wheel........................ with or without an airbag.

example; states no airbag:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/wood-leather-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item230468bff8

otherwise if its in the pic then i would say it should come with it. Otherwise if you sold a W124 seat with the armrest attached to it in the photo, you'd expect to get a seat with an armrest woudlnt you.

if its in the pic then its included in my view as it effects the amount someone is willing to pay as they will factor in the airbag with their bid.
