Drove the new E350 CDI Coupe

All the issues with the E350 are cause by the eco crap they have done to it. Bloody hippies! Make me mad!

So agree!!!! If we forced the eco warriors to buy uneconomical cars they'd be up in arms but they force their ridiculous views on us! Whatever happens, I am getting an uneconomical PETROL six-cylinder engine next time (probably be straight six BMW as they're the only manufacturer still resisting the tide and making multi-cylinder petrols in any great numbers...).

I reckon the fuel consumption has down by 10 pc because of it. How green is that.

It does give me an urge to buy a massive petrol 4x4 and sit ticking over outside Greenpeace like Jeremy Clarkson did!

I don't buy into the eco crap and I should be allowed to have a choice.

I agree totally. Why anyone has any interest in engines that are meant for lorries and tractors is a mystery to me!

I would never consider a diesel. Even the argument for better economy is doubtful as diesel costs more than petrol at the pumps.

Settles down on sofa and opens popcorn...:D

When I test drove the E350 it was the most refined diesel I had ever driven - honestly couldn't tell the difference between it and petrol - and inside the showroom with the engine running you could barely hear it.

The problems are not diesel related, they are eco and software related.

Umm, hate to be the one to break this to you, but the E350 is a petrol. ;)

The petrols are more refined, smoother, easier to drive how you want it (especially in auto guise) and when you get to 2 tonne cars with an auto 'box hardly any different economy wise either.
But.....the UK has an unjust fear of petrol these days, not sure why, but it means no one buys the better car anymore.

I think it probably comes from when the differences were huge, compare the old 1.8 petrol with a 1.9 diesel, from Audi, Mercedes or BMW.
The diesel got to 60mph 4 seconds faster (9 seconds vs 3 seconds on average) and it would do 50mpg compared with the 25 mpg from the petrol, and for that it was a no brainer, but these days that just isn't the case.

330i petrol straight 6 returns around 3mpg more than my 320cdi diesel. :(

I think people forgot that petrol engines have advanced so much.

The E350 parked outside my house as we speak has a CDI badge on the back and takes a tank of diesel every time I fill up, so hope not

It was said tongue in cheek, hence the little.....;)

Wish I'd stuck to my guns like you have - I always said I'd never have a diesel and now, from bitter experience, I will certainly never have another one...

My C350 is a CDI diesel - same OM642 3-litre engine as the old "320" - Mercedes badges have nothing to do with engine size - it's all hierarchical now!

Same with them all though isn't it??

BMW...

325d
330d
335d
525d
530d
535d
730d
740d

All 3 litre diesels, just different states of tunes and some with twin turbos.

I don't think there is any other car/engine manufacturer that can beat Bmw's advancement on this. Looking at their petrol 6 cylinder engines performance, CO2 and fuel consumption only shows how effecient they are. Never mind the little fact that they sound great.... :)

update - the dealer called yesterday and said that MB requested more diag info from the car so the SM and a techie called out this morning.
It still is noisy with the random knocking as if it struggles on tickover (not quite as bad as that, you really have to listen to notice the change in engine timing) and the SM pointed this out to me.
The data collected was for the smooth low idle or something? The SM is also adamant that the engine is being over fueled and this is causing the noise and more than likely the lower than booked mpg although is not sure why this is fixed temporarily after an injector reset.
Hope to hear more in 24hrs from MB.

I've had my 350CDi Sport Saloon since 01/09/10. I have noticed the car is a lot noisier than the CLS 320 CDi I had back in 2006, which I thought was a bit odd, was expecting it to be quieter to be honest with it being a new model.

I have spoken to Mercedes about the introductuion of the 265BHP model within weeks of me getting mine and how annoyed I was. SM has spoken to me about adding the Brabus upgrade at reduced cost, but told them I wasn't happy with that. Waiting for a price to swap or to see what they are prepared to do. I had asked whether or not the higher power engine was going to be introduced when I ordered in Mid August.

Does anybody know when the new 265 engine was available to order.

£40k for a car that sounds and acts as bad these examples on here is not good business, I am surprised Mercedes haven't dealt with it by now.

If I had seen this forum before my purchase, it is very doubtful that I'd have gone ahead with it.
I haven't driven mine since I found out about the new model on here 2 weeks ago. Feel completely let down by Mercedes, and this is my 5th one altogether.

MPG has been 31 in 2400 miles from new, reset at 70mph goes from 35.5 and settles at 37.9. Is that good or bad ?

Cheers

Gary

not sure why everyone is getting so hung up over the "new" 265 model coming out. So what if you have the 230 hp model or whatever it is as I have. Be happy with what you've got, there are many out there that could not afford half that car you have !

230hp with a bucket load of torque makes the coupe a very quick car anyway.

For those of you that have said you would of waited for the "new" model, if you maintain that philosophy in life you will never own anything. After all it is natural progression that there will always be a new model around the corner superseeding the old, whether you are talking about women, cars, boats or TV sets!

I understand the Brabus chip is available, if you are so hung up about a few HP get that. For those that are whinging about the price, isnt the new model coming out going to be more expensive than your model anyway, due to natural car price inflation, VAT and other factors ?

Live with it !
