So agree!!!! If we forced the eco warriors to buy uneconomical cars they'd be up in arms but they force their ridiculous views on us! Whatever happens, I am getting an uneconomical PETROL six-cylinder engine next time (probably be straight six BMW as they're the only manufacturer still resisting the tide and making multi-cylinder petrols in any great numbers...).All the issues with the E350 are cause by the eco crap they have done to it. Bloody hippies! Make me mad!

I agree totally. Why anyone has any interest in engines that are meant for lorries and tractors is a mystery to me!
I would never consider a diesel. Even the argument for better economy is doubtful as diesel costs more than petrol at the pumps.

When I test drove the E350 it was the most refined diesel I had ever driven - honestly couldn't tell the difference between it and petrol - and inside the showroom with the engine running you could barely hear it.
Umm, hate to be the one to break this to you, but the E350 is a petrol.
The E350 parked outside my house as we speak has a CDI badge on the back and takes a tank of diesel every time I fill up, so hope not
It was said tongue in cheek, hence the little.....
Wish I'd stuck to my guns like you have - I always said I'd never have a diesel and now, from bitter experience, I will certainly never have another one...I agree totally. Why anyone has any interest in engines that are meant for lorries and tractors is a mystery to me!

My C350 is a CDI diesel - same OM642 3-litre engine as the old "320" - Mercedes badges have nothing to do with engine size - it's all hierarchical now!Umm, hate to be the one to break this to you, but the E350 is a petrol.
The petrols are more refined, smoother, easier to drive how you want it (especially in auto guise) and when you get to 2 tonne cars with an auto 'box hardly any different economy wise either.
But.....the UK has an unjust fear of petrol these days, not sure why, but it means no one buys the better car anymore.
I think it probably comes from when the differences were huge, compare the old 1.8 petrol with a 1.9 diesel, from Audi, Mercedes or BMW.
The diesel got to 60mph 4 seconds faster (9 seconds vs 3 seconds on average) and it would do 50mpg compared with the 25 mpg from the petrol, and for that it was a no brainer, but these days that just isn't the case.
330i petrol straight 6 returns around 3mpg more than my 320cdi diesel.
I think people forgot that petrol engines have advanced so much.
