Was looking at my headlight on the clk the other day and thought the main headlight plastic casing looks a little dull and not nice and smooth as they did before :( hope that explains it ok.

Is there any cleaning tips or thing i could do to make them look better?

Thanks :)

If yes... Try this, I have some and it is very effective. A Low-cut polish will work also but go gentle.

Available Wilco, Halfords etc.

If you don't have a rotary then the product this guy is showing you above will be the most effective product to take as much marring and contaminants out of the lense cover as you can via a hand aplicator. If you do have a rotary get a cutting pad as this be alot more effective.

thanks for the advise guys - heres a quick snap of my headlight lens a bit dirty :S
but the lens itself is just dull -

I think that they are correctable, but will be hard work by hand. Do you know anyone with a machine polisher and a good selection of compounds and polishes?

Brian.

That's a bit of a wide question. If you need to borrow a rotary, pads & polishes then i think you will need to find someone local to you who will borrow you one.I don't think someone from the other end of the country is gona drive to you to borrow a rotary polisher.

Or is it the fact that your are corresponding to the guy who posted above you and he actually lives in your area?

sorry, dont listen to me i thought you were the guy who started this thread!lol

But yes they are correctable, but to make them look like new you will need to take them off the car and clean and polish the inside lenses. The only discoloring you will be left with is sun damage, which is what tends to turn them that pastey-yellow colour!

You can polish them as follows wash then flat out all scratches with minimum of 1500 wet&dry then polish with T-Cut followed with normal car polish there is no mystery to it and I have done it and got excellent results.
Don't forget that your car is painted with a form of plastic.
You will get all sorts of witch doctor potions recommended but most are covered in "B*****t" claims.
But the advice above is sound they need cleaning inside as well and if they have yellowed they will stay that way
Don't attempt to clean the reflectors with any polish.

Witch doctor potion that will not do anymore than W&D T-Cut and polish

This can be true for plastic headlight lenses, but good quality products for the paint, plastics, vinyl, wheels and upholstery make the world of difference.

I seem to remember that the lenses are detachable and can be bought separately. Certainly the headlamp is dead easy to remove. Might be an easier/better solution to just replace the lenses.

Edit: Heres an old thread that might help
