E Class 270 cdi versus C Class 270cdi

Was that an E Class? E Class *does* have different suspension - apart from anything else, the Avantgarde is lower than Elegance.
However my understanding is that on C Class they're all the same.
maybe but for the sport option

I've just been on a 9 day European driving tour and our hire car was a Renault Laguna 2.0T. Well I've got to say that the ride on the motorway beats my W203 into the ground. It's totally silent and solid and feels just as quick ! My car feels like a go-kart in comparison. I may have to try the E-class with a normal suspension. I've just realised I miss the quiet, solid ride of the bigger car.

Don't forget that European motorways are (mostly) far superior to the rubbish we have to put up with. Smoother, quieter and no poorly filled roadworks.

I find my E-class ride is much smoother and quieter in France than it is over here.

E v C

I'm lucky enough to have both an E class and a C class and you really can't go wrong with either.
As you might expect the E has just a little more refinement and space and costs a little more.
The 270cdi engine is a good compromise in terms of power and economy, but now that I have a dieseltuning.co.uk module on the E220, I enjoy better power and economy than the 270 if not quite the refinement for a lot less money.
The new V6 cdi is the one to go for if you value refinement.

Interesting - especially as you have a 530. I was recently in a colleague's previous shape 525d Sport, and I was staggered by how good the ride was - it was almost magic carpet like. It was probably on the best tyres (Michelin Primacy's) but, especially for a Sport, I was just amazed. Gutted, in fact!

My car (C270 Avantgarde Estate) almost feels like it has no suspension. It's markedly better now it's on Michelins than the original Bridgestones, but even on 16" wheels with reasonable profile tyres it still transmits every tiny road imperfection into the cabin. I swerve around bumps I can see, and brace myself if I can't swerve.
It hasn't got Sport suspension and I understand that on C Class all versions (Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde) have the same suspension. Maybe the estate is very different to the saloon??

The ride in the 530 was indeed quite smooth , but was about the same as a 211 . The 530 was sitting on bridgestones RE050 RFT run flats. Sport suspension on the 5 series sitting on 18's is about the same level of ride as the C class sport edition ive got sitting on 17's

To be honest with you , for the extra positive feeling from the car , a slight amount of stiffness rather than body roll at higher speeds is welcome. It just feels safer.
