There's a good photo of the W210 body on this site

We know the front crosss member rusts through (the silver beam at the front) I'm wondering if the engine support behind it will fail too in time.An engine that has a small oil leak may be a good thing in this case !
Interestingly MB state 48% of the W210 is galvanized up from 42% on the W124 which if true points the finger firmly in the direction of thin paint etc.

Neither subframe rail will rot right through. The front one can suffer with the bottom closing plate rusting. This is due to three things; poor paint application, the soundproofing being mounted tight to the plate and thin steel.

The upper section doesn't rot.

MB may say the W210 has more galvanising but ask your local bodyshop. there is no galvanising on these cars.

I read on the other MB forum someone being charged £1700 to replace the front crossmember! I assume for this money the whole thing has come out rather than just the bottom plate ?
