E-class W211 - STAR mods and pre-facelift electrical issues?

I thought auto-folding mirrors came as standard with the Avantgarde spec.

Mine doesn't have them - guess it depends on the Class and year, although I think they were an optional extra.

I have the folding mirrors but they can be switched on/off through the settings on the console. It might be worth checking to see if you have the setting in there first if you haven't looked already.

Couldn't see a setting this morning. I dont think I have them to be honest - they look too 'fixed'

If the function does not operate on your car the worst case scenario is to have a new cluster and a new central gateway. THe least is to have a new central gateway. Then with the newer hardware it can work.

The requirement for coding is to know where the coding strings are.

Folding mirrors

The problem with W211 mirror coding is that in cars dated 2003-2004 the initial coding does nothing. You drive the car around for a while park it and it can then auto-folding kicks in. This is the reason why it would appear that such coding does not work directly after coding.

You may also consider to flash you ESP and SBC in order to maintain the correct software versions

We should start another thread on which modules in the car need flashing.

Yesterday I installed W211 navigation and flashed
- audio gateway
- headunit
- ESP
- battery management unit

I will ask the dealer to flash
- engine
- transmission
- cluster (if possible)
- central gateway
- SBC
- UHI

[the car needs a new sbc pump]

As I understand it, these software updates come out for a reason and the intention is that customers obtain these updates when the car is serviced. By doing so the number of unpleasant experiences can be greatly decreased with every newer flash upgrade.

We have seen the popularity of the head unit upgrade, imagine better engine performance and better electrical management.

I know this is kind of an old thread but I wanna bring this one back to life and hope others will post what they did. I will start with what I have done so far with SDS:
- Fuel Tank Capacity in cluster
- Date in cluster
- RECIRC on at speeds lower than 30 km/h
- Turned off "Remove Key" in cluster and annoying beep
- Turned off "Switch Lights Off" in cluster and annying beep
- Turned off annoying fasten seat belt beep
- Enabled Video In Motion
- Enabled Navigation menu in cluster
- Enabled Bluetooth Puck with tail

What I'm still trying to do is:
- Tire Pressure Loss Warning
- Close Sunroof when raining
- Turn on the HVAC to show the fan speed when on Auto
- Change to allow fan speed adjustment on Defrost
- Run fog lamps at the same time when high beams are on

But for some of the mods you will need to recode the car to RoW in the Central Gateway and I haven't figured this one out yet. Maybe someone can shed some light into this one?

I don't like the cornering lights and find them pointless.

I had noticed a few mercs going about with one fog light on (always on a bend) and surmised it was a new "feature"

i think ikt looks awful...as if a normal bulb has failed....or as if their is a short in the wiring, if it only works with xenons then do you really need any more light?????

Very gimmicky.....if you want cornering lights then buy an insignia.

I haven't tried cornering lights.

I went in Variantkodierung Werkeinstellungen where is the Tank info but what is the German words for Date show in cluster?

After you changed something in the CI, make sure you go back into "Actuations" and "Complete Index of actuations" and then select "Steuergeraet Resetten (PowerON-Modus) (FN_Reset_SG_Power_ON)" to reset the ECU or you won't see anything that has been changed.

Mate is there any solution for windows auto close when vehicle closed?
I know that I can manually close/open windows with holding pressed the remote key.
But I want to be automatically.

You mean like the old VW Golf 3 had? Locking car with key then holding it for a bit longer and windows and sunroof closes automatically? That's a good one. I never roll down the windows so I wouldn't know but I'll check into this. Haven't seen anything like it before to be honest.

I have CTEL phone system with Bluetooth Motorola handset but I need second SIM
And the Bluetooth in the Comand is useless I cannot even send my contacts.

I retrofitted all of my mods. BT is working fine. I'm using a Euro COMAND in my US car so I cannot download my contacts but I can care less. What do you mean with your parking lights?

I use LED parking light with additional resistors to prevent errors.
But in this screen shot there is some LED module which can be activated and then I suppose there wont be needed resistors...
