So I had some spare time, after looking at the media interface leads I thought I could make a video/audio cable to use with the ipod and games console's.

Seems like Mercedes have either locked down the Aux video in or it just isnt available on the E coupe with Comand and Media interface kit?

On the media interface cable document it shows the pin outs for audio/video in so I made a 3.5mm 4 pole cable to female phono's but I dont get any video.
I even went into the comand engineer menu and enabled "Aux Video" in the HU section but still nothing :(

Now youve enabled AUX video, if you go to Video can you select the AUX and get a blank screen ?

It should work ..

Hi Richard, no.
I struggled to see where the AUX video screen would appear and hung around the AUDIO menu but realised that it would be in the VIDEO menu.
When I click the video menu it just takes me straight to play a DVD.
There isn't a hyphen where it says VIDEO to indicate that there are other selections in that menu or sub options (the same as the audio) menu.

Ok, reset the COMAND - needs doing after you change the config (I normally do this in Star, so not familiar with what can be done in eng. mode). That should make the video aux menu appear.
I am much more familiar with NTG2.5, so am expecting NTG4 to behave like NTG2.5

Thanks Richard, I will have a look to see how I can reset COMAND from the radio front panel, not sure how but something might pop out :)

Look in engineering mode, or pull the fuse.

Don't do the "full reset" thing on the menus which will delete your saved destinations etc.

Will have a look on how to reset (pull fuse) when I get home later, and am interested in a third party TV tuner if the Aux video in works.
Only issue now would be, you get 3 media cables with the UCI interface and I leave the ipod one plugged in all the time (for ipod music).
I am now looking at a TV Tuner Veba AVDVBTEU Car Digital DVB-T TV Tuner with Antenna on eBay (end time 01-Jul-10 00:38:19 BST)
but would have to unplug the ipod lead to plug in the AUX lead.
Looking at the pinouts, they are configured to tell the comand unit which lead is plugged in. I am tempted at rewiring the ipod lead, to have both the ipod AND AUX lead coming out of the same UCI connector to save me unplugging/swapping leads and also having the ipod (media interface) AND AUX selections in the comand menu. Would this be a bad thing to try??

Pulling the fuse had no effect on the AUX addition to the video menu :(

To make sure I changed other features like TV Tuner and Hybrid screens. After reseting Comand I had an extra TV option in the VIDEO menu but still didnt have access to AUX VIDEO.

For what its worth I activated the TV Tuner in another engineer menu (not the HW menu) and I only see the AUX video option in the HU menu.

BTW, does your car have reversing camera ?
R

No, never worked!
My car does have the reversing camera too.

I even had it in at Mercedes and they had a play around as they had purchased in a lead (same pinout config as the one I made up) for another customer that worked in their e350. This also didn't work.
The other car did however have the tv option in.

I have the answer :-)

The reversing camera uses the video input, so you don't have it for Media Interface. This applies to W207/W212 (i.e NTG4-W212)

On R230 (SL) if you have TV you lose Media Interface Video, for the same reason - I assume the same is true on all NTG2.5 cars.

Thats a bloomin cheek....

Wonder why MB didn't realize that when you are in reverse you wouldn't actually be watching input from the video and fit a switching circuit.

Oh, its worse than than :-) There is another video input but its only used for the external Navigation system used in a couple of countries in the Far East !!!

NTG2.5 also has 2 video inputs (a) Reverse camera (green fakra), (b) TV or MI Video (18 way connector pins1/2)
