What a mess

Thanks to all for the comments, sorry I haven't been on line in last few days but I had modem problems.

Just to comment on a few things. Tyres all have good thread depth, all pressures are perfect, new front shocks were fitted two weeks ago. Traction control lights comes on it you put foot down hard so I guess it is working. Rear shocks all seem fine. I feel that there is a lot more body roll than my previous car (Alfa 166 which just didnt roll at all no matter what you did to it!!).

The car always feel slippy and unsafe in wet weather even at relatively slow speeds - that is why I thought it may be due to tyre type/ rubber compound especially as it is an import.

Cheers

I cringe when I read this. Surely there is either something wrong with the tyres\vehicle, or the driving style. If the car feels both slippy and unsafe in the wet, even at slow speeds then something, somewhere is wrong?

John

I intend getting it on a ramp this weekend to check out suspensions, tie rods etc but I dont expect to find too much. I can assure you it is not the driving style (I know we all say that!!!) but genuinely it just lacks grip. My girlfriends 1997 Renault Megane would be stuck to the road at the same speeds compared to this car. I love everything about the car except this problem. I'm sure Pirelli's or something like that would improve it but I am reluctant to change tyres at the moment as they are in such good condition.

It is also going for the NCT(Car test in Ireland) on Friday so it will be interesting to see if they find anything.

Thanks again

MFK

Just to let you know car passed NCT without a problem. However today i took a good look around the car and I found that the tyres are "directional". They all have direction of rotation marked on them. The rear ones were correct but the front ones were both wrong. This would mean that in wet weather it would be collecting the water instead of dispersing it hence it always felt slippy (it was probably aquaplaning). I have reversed the tyres so when it is wet (shouldnt be too long a wait in Ireland!!) I will see if there is a difference. Just thought I would let you all know in case it is something you are not aware of.

Thanks again

MFK

Says a lot for the NCT then....incorrect rotation should fail.
