E200 Classic '98 sunroof and boot problem

Hi, new to the forum. I've just bought a '98 E200. The only issues I have are that the sunroof and boot release don't work. There sounds like there's power going to the motor of both as there is a slight 'whine' when I press the button. Also the sunroof makes clicking noises. I've tried the crank that was supplied to open manually and reset and it seems to be stuck. Any ideas? Someone mentioned it may be a vacuum pump. I have no clue what that is!

Put the metal key blade into the boot lock and turn the key anti – clockwise to unlock the boot then try locking and unlocking the car via the remote key fob and check if the boot is now locking and unlocking.

Can’t help with the sunroof problem.

the sunroof issue sounds like a common one - the cables popping out of their runners.

try moving it back on the switch, then pushing a little, then back to the switch and so on. hopefully this way you can get it back to see what is happening, likely the 2x cables that push it back are popping out of their guides. if this is the case there is an easy and effective mod that avoids a lot of expense and hassle.

thanks for the replies. As it stands I can't get the roof to open even with the manual crank. Is there a link anywhere that may be able to help? I've googled it to death with no luck.
