Hi everyone,

I make about 300 miles for full standard tank which is about 60 litres. Do you think it is normal? I bought it about 2 months ago.

Thank you for your reply artyman.
Thats what I thought too. It is almost 20mpg which is not so much. I do drive efficiently as much as I can too.

I forgot to say that it is town driving with very little motorway driving. So do you think I should take it back to MB Service? I should have a year warranty on it.

Ok thank you very much for your time and responses. very kind.

On the basis of your driving habits, the car is fine. Don't worry, big cars in town use quite a bit of fuel

You said that to me when I asked about the same problem ! :D

Thank you for your reply artyman.

My dad's E280 CDI gets ~23mpg (not happy with that) in town (~400miles) and is used on a motorway rarely. Your 220CDI should be doing more than 20mpg surely. What's the service history like and what's the temperature of the engine when warm?

recently been serviced 2000 miles ago. the temperature is at normal level it seems. As I said I have recently bought it. I was expecting a bit better consumption. I rarely spend time in traffic. usually drive off peak but in town.

I really appericiate of your time and knowledge, Thank you all for your repsonses. I think I should take it back to MB garage to find out. I was not sure before whether it was normal or not...

Yes I think a visit to the garage would be a good idea.. I certainly would not be happy with 20mpg from a 220 CDI imho. That sort of mpg is expected from a 200 kompressor. You can acheive better than 20 mpg in a V6 CDI ! good luck..

Temperature should be 85-90C to be normal and if doing all intown driving I would expect to get close to 40mpg (8.8mpl), unless of course you are doing very very short trips.

Take it for a long trip to check. As a comparison, when really trying:
