How do you tell if it's a facelift model? Off to look at a couple of 06 plate e-class estates tomorrow.

By looking at the above link (picture) you can notice:
Sharper triangular grill
Different bumper
Different side mirror design
Lines in the upper section of the large headlight.

A 06 facelift model is pretty rear in the market but there are many 56 reg facelifts about. As mentioned previously here, it would be a wiser choise to stick to a facelift E.

The facelift model started in 06.

It started with July production 2006. I was at the factory for the launch. Very few cars made it out of the dealers before 1/9/06.

the wiring loom is hand laid unlike pre facelift which is robot - leading to various trapped wires / shorts that caused the early cars to be a pain.

At the time the 211 facelift was the most comprehensive in mb history.

Not the best shot, but the difference in the grille is the most obvious difference, though there are a few V6's within pre facelift trims, just to confuse.

Our E is a 06 reg and its a facelift. Very suprised its an 06er

That car was a good car, pre facelift V6 that never put a foot wrong in the 10k miles I did in it (I owned it from 128-138k miles).
