Afternoon,

I prefer the E55K W211, no question, so I can't comment on the W210 - which does look quite nice.

The W211 is not too far overpriced given it is a 2005 model, but it is somewhat leggy. There are a few on here who can give book prices with adjustment for mileage.

The seats are holding up well for that mileage. I'm surprised it has BOSE - I understood Karman Hardon was the option on these. ;)

Wheels aren't standard I believe (but look like black E500 ones) and the only options listed are Keyless, Bluetooth and massage seats I think (possibly heated might have been an option and not sure about adaptive cruise) - so a reasonable spec.

Full history bodes well except that not all MB dealers are great.

It's been up for sale for a fair while.

Test the airmatic suspension - ensure it changes in normal, sport I and sport II.

Make sure the raise button raises it.

Check all the eletrics work including parking sensors.

Make sure when you drive it it goes like absolute stink. If not, SC could be having issues.

Let us know how you get on...

Thanks for info...tbh i would prefer standard wheels, what do you mean by SC? i did read that they can suffer from cooling problems when you thrash them, but this can be resolved with aftermarket upgrade?

Make sure the AMG badge is held properly so the letters wont fall of

Heated Seats and Adaptive cruise control I believe were options it also says it has voice control so not a bad spec car, I would change the wheels though.
I bought a E55 in October so here is the advice I was given.

Rocker Cover Seal can leak so check both, if it has SBC (I dont think they were fitted to 2005 model though) check when or if it has had a replacement pump.
Have Supercharged Belts been changed.
Airmatic check it goes up and down, after test drive get the seller to make you a cuppa while you go thorough the paperwork then check the car again to see if the car has settled on any corner. A large amount could indicate a leak.
Test drive if possible with a short fast A road if possible with a roundabout at each end, give a few full blasts, you want to get some serious heat in the supercharger (SC) and check that it does not have any loss of power. ignore the "chirps" you may hear some cars do and some don't. Check the gear changes are nice and smooth and check when the gearbox fluid was last changed (Mercedes say once at 37k only most Indy's say every 37k)
Front brakes I was told are about £450 plus fitting so worth checking when they were last changed.
Tyre tread particularly the rears as they can chew through, also check for uneven wear on all four for some reason they seem to be more likely to get out of alignment (not experienced this myself)
Check it has 4 cats fitted, it might have an MOT but will it get through next time after the recent changes, also check the condition of the boxes an AMG exhaust is not cheap.
Every thing else is as you would any other car.

SC = Supercharger = Kompressor

Loss of power on the supercharged AMG engines is typically the intercooler pump failing. Not expensive if you buy the parts in the US.

Hi,

Beyond any shadow of a doubt it HAS to be the W211 E55. With the state of the current used car market for big petrol engine cars, I am sure it is only a matter of time before you find the perfect car for you at the perfect price.

Looks like the OP heeded your advice, as his profile states W211.

Having said that, the question was asked on 18-02-2012, so he's had the time to think about it... ;)

I'm finding myself randomly commenting on things. I cant create the post I would like until I hit 30 posts :rolleyes:

You should be able to create a thread/post before 30 posts AFAIK, unless you want to advertise something for sale?

Create the post you'd like - it and your responses to others will raise your post count.

Randomly commenting on other threads to raise your count can sometimes be frowned upon.

Where is the tab to create a new thread then..?:doh:

I thought User CP = User Create post but no option from within the tab

Then there's New Posts which just shows me MBUK's latest posts

Fantastic Signature by the way :D

Go to the section where you want to post (eg, General> General Discussion)
Near the top of the page you should see a box with "New Thread" as shown below.
Click on that and post away.

Edit... User CP is just user control panel to change your p/w etc. That isn't for creating new posts/threads.
