My front passenger seat will not move forward. It will move back without issues but when I press forward I just hear a solenoid type click and no movement.

I have also noticed that the rear of the seat will also no longer go up or down. Im assuming they use the same motor / circuit and the fault must relate to each other.

Any ideas on where to start? it hard to get much access as the seats movement is limited.

Will it move to a pre set memory selection? I think the electric seats are fused in the fuse box end of the dash by the steering wheel, and controlled by the Sam unit in the Rear of the car.

Found this may be useful http://www.autogenius.info/mercedes-e-class-w211-fuse-box-diagram/

Mercedes r170 slk Suffer similar and they have a Seat relay that where the Solder joints go bad. I cant find any info on a Relay for the w211

I'm also having my own electrical issue atm lol

Hi have you checked main battery as I have found e55s to require good voltage for extras to work ie if battery a bit low sun roof stops half-way quick run to charge all ok MB designed to shut down extras to protect electronics worth a check but I would of thought both seat would not work

Had a little look about as much as my sore throat and fever allowed (Im crazy I know but its bugging me).

Checked rear fuses and fuses by the drivers side and no blown fuses at all. Had a look under the seat and checked some cables. No luck but when the switch is pushed forward I can hear a distinct clicking from under the seat so I think the switch is good.

Does anyone know of a way to manually push the seat forward at all? As my little girl has decided to push the back button and as it wont go forward there is not much leg room now in the back.

No easy way that i know of :/ be interested to see what the fault code/s are. :(

Yeah having done further research it appears I will have to remove the seat base under far from ideal circumstances in order to access the motors.

Needless to say it's not a job I'm looking forward to and I think I will need to get better before I even consider touching the car.

Thats a right Pitta... :( hope you feel better soon bud:(

Thanks mate, I've been on immune suppressants for years and I get a bad cold / infection this time if the year.

I'm now on strong antibiotics so think I will be better soon. In the meantime I can procrastinate about how the hell I'm going to execute the repair.
