E63 AMG Blog begins....

Few running turbo upgrades kicking about now on standard engine

Well, another 6 weeks on........no change here.... :-)

:D:D:D:D:D

Epic Car, end of.

Well almost another month gone by. Car just gets better with miles. ODO now showing almost 9k miles, absolutely stonking > love this thing to the moon and back....

:bannana::bannana::bannana:

Msl are are going no where near mine . Why ? Cos I dont need it . The car is purrfecto !!

~200 extra horsepower, ~250 extra lbft, improved throttle response, faster gear changes etc etc. Makes a 'purrfecto' car even more perfect.

Each to their own I guess.

I really do NOT need any more power.....honestly.........honestly......

No one needs more power... ;)

You do right to keep it stock for a while and let it blow your pants off until you're used to it. But, I'd maybe take a ride in a member's mapped car and see how it feels.

No change here.....:D

i've had my E63 since May and had it remapped a month ago. I'm a young driver so my experience is only based on 5 years of driving but here goes:

The power is rarely tapped into but you'll feel endless torque everywhere (mine's pushing around 1100NM) which can be a good or bad thing. While it does make everyday driving even more effortless, it certainly takes some getting used to. (You'll get wheelspin even at 40mph+). It took me some time to respect the power and not kill myself.

If you usually have passengers, I think you can give the remap a pass. Most my passengers aren't used to that much torque and easily get frightened even with light pulls and don't enjoy a torquey ride in general (it's hard to resist the occasional pull).
If you mostly drive alone then I think the improvements only add to the smiles per gallon, especially the feeling you get of owning a sleeper capable of crushing a Gallardo. But do consider limiting torque to something like 900NM to make it more everyday use-able.

Really appreciate your comments mate, and it sounds like you are enjoying the map. I am sticking to my guns here. The car has more than enough power to keep me happy. at only 18 months old and still under MB Warranty I do not want to compromise it in any way......

I'd say its a probably more a bad thing, especially for the rear tyres

And the diff....

Have had my E63 for just over 3 months now.

My previous car was a GTR and the one before that was an RS6 V10 - Both cars ran ~700+ and although the GTR lacked the torque of the V10 it was still a push in the seat kinda ride.
So thats the background... now onto the Merc,

My dad used to own a B7 RS4, we then decided to get rid of the Audi's as they were starting to cost big money and were getting long in the tooth, so i found him a lovely W211 E63 with only 40k on the clock, every option and it really is truly immaculate.
After taking his car one dinner time (instead of the GTR) i was absoutely sold, the 6.2 with its ~530bhp felt like a hammer, it sounded gorgeous i loved the quick gear changes and the feel and ride of the car it just felt good.

So that set me thinking, anyway long story short i ended up with this E63 S, i was lucky enough to buy one already mapped/weistec downpipes/sports cats....
So when i picked her up she was 737bhp and nearly 880ib/ft but i was used to this with the RS6 and the GTR.
Instantly after driving it i was blown away, the torque is just savage, the ride quality and overall precision of the steering is tremendous, it feels poised and eager to please.
The S+ coupled with "sport handling" really livens up the steering and lets you give it some sideways without going to far, so it makes you feel like an absoute hero.
I cant explain it but its just a fantastic place to be, it blows the RS and the GTR away in terms of comfort and ride quality.
The RS was lovely but being able to get massaged and cooled while driving is just mental.

I love the car no end, and in terms of reliablity the car has been mapped from around 18k miles (i bought it on 22k) and it now has 32k on it, yes yes i know 10k in 3 months is bad!
But i did Worthersee this year and the ring so that was a 4000 mile trip and the car was flat out the whole time really, i also managed 4 laps of the Nurburgring with no issues - So remap reliablity i'd say is good.

My only niggles (even after latest software) the gearbox just isnt fast enough in manual mode, the delay on the paddles is annoying as hell, its actually faster in my dads W211 than it is in mine.
The brakes are rubbish, great bite but far too small for the size and weight of the car even in stock S model trim at nearly 600bhp 360mm stoppers is just too small.
RS came with 380's and those were rubbish, i'll be going with a nice 410mm AP setup soon as my 20" wheels arrive!

I have interim serviced the car myself a few times already (3 times), gearbox/engine/plugs/diff and all in all the car really doesnt seem to be mistreat by the remap and i really do drive like a t**t in the sense that if i can get my toe down i will! but yeah, no funny oil colours or smells, everything looks good, plugs were due a change through age, condition was fine a little sooty but thats probably my fault for cold start and then turning it off again.
Gearbox shifts are like silk and the diff seems to be coping just fine, i have even done about 10 launches and a couple of burnouts in "dyno mode" and no ill effects.

I do like to hear of someone who truly enjoys their car.

I cant go into enough detail really without writing some giant review...

But it feels lively, it feels like it has a soul and i genuinely love the car, no matter how many times i get in it, or fill it up or even just look at it there is not one hint of "boredom"
The way it makes you feel when you drive it is just sublime, ok so i have some annoying cabin rattles and the issues i mentioned above, but nothing is perfect.... and as for a car that carries 4 people and lots of luggage to be able to high tail round the Ring pretty quick and still be a fantastic daily drive is a difficult task.
The fact you can put it all in comfort mode and it just plods along like any diesel saloon, to then switching to S+ and it turning into a stiff semi race car that is fairly capable.
Ok so it doesnt do the race car thing perfectly but neither did the GTR, gearbox oil temps had to be carefully watched, tyre wear, brake fade... and everything is so expensive.
I mean a bloody gearbox oil cooler is nearly £3000 how does that work?

Least things are also priced fairly, and going to a MB dealer service center and asking for oem oils etc is very cheap indeed.

Compared to the RS6, i'd pick the merc hands down, granted i've only driven a newer C7 briefly and although felt a lot more involved than the C6 still felt a bit numb, the Merc has none of that it really involves you in the drive.... but only when you want to be involved.

This is what makes a great car a fantastic car, it plays multiple personalites and although not a master at one its certainly well established in all departments!
Couldnt have asked for a better purchase really espically for the money!

Excellent , personal review there my friend .
You have pretty much summed it up and more with this .

Everything above makes for great reading, especially as I'm hoping to get into an E63 estate soon.

My RS6 Avant (C6) is great but it's dated inside now and I notice this even more so after driving a Merc last week.

Hopefully I can contribute with some real life experience soon.

Think i know your name from the RS246 Forum.... It's TomRS haha!

The merc is lightyears ahead of the RS6 C6 in every way!

Blimey Tom, didn't realise you'd opted for the Merc, that's good to hear though.
It does feel light years ahead and my current plan is to use the AMG as a stop gap before getting into the C7. Who knows though, I could fall in love with Merc and prefer it to the C7.

So you love yours then?
