E63 Economy Prediction

On the dash it says 6.3 V8

I though they were actually 6.2? ok I know probably makes no difference 100cc or so...

My old boss had a S500 years ago that he had the option to shut down part of the engine when cruising, surely this would work these days as even half of what you have would be more than good enough for 70mph :)

I believe the 6.3 is reference to something MB historic. Actual displacement is 6208, though I agree actually saying 6.3 is a bit odd :dk:.

Get the pitchforks ready, he needs to be burnt for driving a monstrous V8 like a 4 pot diesel.

27.7mpg if you have a following wind.....(!)

I reckon he ate second prize which would have provided that extra propellant to achieve such a disappointingly good economy...

:D

It was actually quite hard because it's only just HGV1 speed, however, post #1 objective achieved.

Seeing 30mpg was quite surreal.

How did you manage that economy. Mine is meant to be more economical and I have never seen over 25mpg!

Very impressive John - when I had a Midlands built gentleman's carriage with a 6.3l engine, 30mpg would have been unthinkable (as would the quoted 330bhp), so well done for demonstrating how far engineering has come (on many levels) over the past 40 years :)

Don't forget Gerry, it was entirely motorway and the trip was set as I was travelling down the slip road.

The variable speed limits helped and as you can see by the average speed, I was taking it very steadily.

Luckily, there was almost no loss of speed or need to accelerate, due to me anticipating traffic at each junction.

I didn't turn off the aircon, however, I did duck down down a bit ;).

In summary, it's impressive, but entirely unrepresentative of real life motoring.

This is the most annoying thread ever!

I've now realised that I should have bought a E63! Damn you and you fuel efficiency claims :)

Don't be fooled BG - it only does 13mpg ish around town

Worth every penny though :thumb:.

daft question alert: what does the little coffee cup symbol on the speedo represent?!?

That shows that attention assist (i think) is active.
Detects if you are drowsy and alerts you via a tone and dash display.

Did you have the lights on? Apparently there was a scientific exercise done on here that showed an increase in mpg with them off.
Not sure if it was published in any journals though.
