Did you have the lights on? Apparently there was a scientific exercise done on here that showed an increase in mpg with them off.
Not sure if it was published in any journals though.

I've recently started using Shell turbo V max Nitro super diesel in an experiment that I may get a few more mpg..... OOh and the fact I now have the complete Lego Ferrari set

My "After Reset" says 15mpg over 4000 miles. The problem is that the majority is city driving (poor mpg) and the open road stuff tends to be point and squirt (poor mpg).
Mega smiles per gallon though .
I'll come up one day after winter to have a look at the house .
Are the earlier large petrol engines with less emission gubbins better on fuel? I'm asking as I fancy an older big bus for next summer, and I notice my Euro !V diesel returns poorer consumption than the previous diesel engine that was less compliant.
I used to run a Jensen Interceptor that was a little thirsty

If you mean the previous non supercharged W210 E55 model from '98 - 02, I think you will find the economy very similar to the later W211 without the better performance.
Not sure what an E430 is like for fuel though.
