EBC Greenstuff or OEM Pads ?...That is the question

have a look at this. talks about warped discs at length. Personally I always stick to OEM. My track bike had performance pads on standard discs, but that got used on the track where braking was a bit keener ;)

Has anyone else noticed increased noise with just fitting EBC pads. Am thinking it may of just been the discs, but I dont know why this would be.

I hope you are not talking about brake squeal......I would hate to have brake squeal......that is the one reason why I have always used OEM pads, in order to avoid this issue so this is the first time in many years that I am moving away onto a different brand.

I am leaving the rears as OEM as they dont really generated a lot of dust.

I have seen that before and I have some doubt on parts of it after all its only been written by a person.

Cast iron is relatively stable until it is machined, once the outer skin is removed from the casting it can warp sitting on the shelf where large temperature swings take place

That's why castings used to be weathered before use.

The thing I got from the text was the build up of deposits on the disc causes more trouble than actuall warping. Would need a properly researched article to get a more accurate view (these guys are selling brake upgrades afterall)..

I know for my 1100S forum brake judder and excessive wear becomes a common problem when performance pads are used with standard discs for road use - I'm still on the original discs at 39k - which for a bike seems pretty good, but then I think I get more problems from grubby calipers and pad glazing as the bike gets used mainly round the city and in all weathers.

I perhaps naively believe that a quality manufacturer would provide their product in an albeit compromised form balancing wear and performance .

deposits are again arguable as the disc wear taking any deposits with the wear, but of coarse new deposits could be implanted as you drive.

Year ago there used to be a process called metal blacking, that was done by heating the iron up and then dipping in oil so that it would not rust. Any metal like cast iron when expanded is porous and can absorb anything.

At the end of the day I know of 20 cars with EBC fitted and never had any problems

Well, I guess that all I want to know really.....as long as people have used these pads with oem disks and have suffered no squealing or abnormal disk issues, I'm happy to fit them.

No, it wasn't brake squeal. just an audible noise when applying the brakes. No one else on the forum has mentioned increased noise so possibly it was the type of discs I had.

Can you post results after you've fitted yours?

I think that the EBC red could be noisier than the OE pads, if my Green pads are noisier, then I have not noticed it even with the roof down

As soon as they are fitted I will give an update.
