That is not the main ECU and as far as Iv'e read these dont tend to go faulty if anything it's the main ECU, other will be along to correct me if I;m wrong

:o oh dear, best I get back to the Haynes manual again, it obviously didnt sink in :D

Yes it is worth buying too

This is what is referred to as the EZL ignition unit. They are indeed getting very scarce/expensive. They can fail due to the heatsink compound between the unit and the inner wing drying out- the unit overheats- KAPUT! One lucky poster got one for £30 from a breaker-others have paid several £100s A £120 "buy it now" price seems fair --for someone needing one! Impossible to test without fitting to the car--and no warranty/money back?? If you have one thats working a £5 spent on renewing the heatsink compound is a wise precaution

I have spoken with the seller and it is from a 300CE 24 that he's breaking. He apparently bought the car to put the engine in his own car and then decided agaisnt it for some reason. He gave the impression that the ECU has been in some way upgraded/chipped as "It beats 320's off the line, and is real fast". I thought 300 24V were more powerfull anyway without any mods! (I was told 236BHP by the seller).

Anyway, I might well take a trip over there and see what sort of deal can be done for an ECU as well, what would you guys expect that to go for?

Talking to an ex Bosch guy these new are around £1500 and they cost Bosch around the £20 to have made

Sir, I am in the wrong business...

As far as I know the ignition advance curve is in the EZL unit and the ECU essentially controls the fuelling only. I doubt if you could extract much more power out of the fuelling ECU by any sort of remap if indeed that is possible. There is a rotary switch device for setting the ignition advance for different fuel octane ratings on the EZL but this would be pretty much optimised for the UK market. It was a well known "demon tweek" for cars in the US which were often set up from the factory for lower octane fuels. By advancing the ignition settings and using premium fuels you could improve throttle response and driveability on the US cars. You could price an ECU by phoning BBA REMAN and asking the current price for a reconned unit??? The small EZL ignition unit is worth buying. I,m not so sure about the bigger engine fuelling ECU. Guess it depends on the price.
