Car
E270
Hi, I am from India and own a 2005 E270 CDI.

The car is quite old now and was feeling sluggish so I read about this online
tried to reset the transmission control unit using this Holy Crap you guys.....sneaky ECU reset WORKS!!! - MBWorld.org Forums

But after this the car wouldn't start. The workshop guy traced it to crank sensor problem and ecu fault. The crank sensor was replaced and the person repaired the ECM.

The car then worked fine for a week, perfectly smooth as good as it was before. But then once when I started the car and pulled it out of the parking spot it stopped again, however it started instantly.

Thinking something might be wrong. I called the workshop guy and he connected it to his diagnostic system. He is now saying that the ecu needs to be replaced as the internal microprocessor is corrupted. The car is in his workshop and he would say it wouldn't start. He has provided me with the error code. N3/9 CDI control unit fault. A screen shot of the same is attached.

The workshop guy is saying ECU will have to be replaced as only post 2005 ECU's are repairable. Does this error code mean that there is a problem with the ECU?

I would like to hear what you think the fault is.

THanks for your help

With that code it is quite likely that it is faulty.

I would suggest getting it on a Star diag machine first. Has the voltage to the ECU been checked?
