Im getting low town mpg in my c220cdi 2008 model auto - about 23-28mpg

I am considering getting the maf and egr checked and cleaned.

How much should I pay for this service? Anyone done it before and has it helped increase mpg?

If they are faulty, they will cause limp mode and loss of power so I wouldn't waste my money

Is your thermostat ok?

Hi thanks for your reply

My stat seems fine as it reaches normal operating temp. No overheating or abnormal temperature.

Although I stated above temp us ok I have noticed on a 9 mile trip today, when I got home stat needle was at 60. I would have thought it would be at 90 as it was a good stop start drive. Outdoor temp about 6 degrees. Would you suspect a problem? How much would it cost to replace a thermostat using a genuine part? Would a diagnostic pick up a faulty stat? Cheers

You have already picked up the fault,10 minute job to change,ECP sell them.

Just to add no a diagnostic would not pick up a faulty stat.

As above, you have found the problem, change the stat and all should be well

Get a price from MB as well as ECP, sometimes not far off (or better) priced

The car is now over 6 years old. Done 80,000 miles. Would it be advisable to remove egr and clean out just to make sure it's not contributing to poor mpg. I'm not sure how dirty it would be at this age/mileage as I've never had to do this before.

Note: I reckon thermostat is ok a it's now reaching temp

The new stats will come up on diagnostic if they fail. You will also get an engine warning light too!

I stand corrected!

Is that on all engines/vehicles?

Only reason I ask is because I've never had any lights up on my W210, nor seen it mentioned on here when members have said their stats have gone
