Ok, having had my 202 for donkeys years i've always used Castrol Magnatex oil in the engine but what's the best for the gearbox? It's in for a service the week after next and want to use a good quality oil for it and value the forum members opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Some say DextronII is fine in these cars - then again, others say to use nothing up the genuine Mercedes stuff.

I replaced with the genuine mercedes stuff - will cost about £80 though!! Probably half that for standard Dextron.

there are several posts about this - do a search

I'd recommend Dexron III or Mercon V spec.

Also Dexron II will be ok and is a bit cheaper, but the price differential vs the extra long term benefits of using the higher spec fluid doesn't stack up.

Hi,
I personnally would,nt use anything but MB fluid in my AMG.

I have just changed mine and i put in dextron 3 aqf which is one up from atf dextron 2 and the changes are not so good from cold but once warm are okay.

So now i have got some merc oil and thats one of my next jobs.

Alos changed the wifes gearbox oil:D 2001 c320 and thats gone the same so i will see if the merc oil is any better then change hers as well.

Changed the gearbox oil again today and the merc oil is a lot thinner than dextron 3 and it seems to drive better and kick down more readily:)
