Engine won't start and glow plug lights not lighting

Had mercedes specialist out to diagnose today. Star didn't connect (expected!). Checked all fuses, and ecu. Ecu is not faulty but no power getting to it so ecu not firing up at all.
Any thoughts on the issue would be appreciated as he has had to go to another customer and will come back on thursday to test wires etc. I believe he found a black and red wire that goes to the ecu, but in the wiring diagram he has, it shows just a black wire should be there. Looking into this before he returns but again any info would be useful.

Well i tried to look up the wiring but i don't know what Mercedes call the ECu !! :o) And so i couldn't find it. I did see a start lockout relay though

Hi all,
This is my first post i bought the E CLASS 270CDI on 2004 plate 10 months ago everything was ok until I went on holiday this summer on Europe, stopped the car after 400 km to put some fuel,I went to restart turned over and wouldn't fire the glow plugs light wasn't show on the dash tried this a few times and after one hour the glow plugs light shows on the dash and the car started as usual, after this, happens three more times(still no glow plug light on dash even when ignition turned on) but after fey hours the glow plugs shows on the dash and the car started.Im hopping LABen can help me because you had the same problem as Me

Does anyone have any idea what this could be???

regards Martin

I had this problem and it was the Electric ignition circuit board ,the boys at Birmingham fixed it cost £300

Hello Martin2511. I know it is an old thread, but, could you please write me what was the resolve of the problem your described? Thank you

ar57,

I think a reply unlikely since the bloke posted only twice & it was over 2½ years ago.

You'll get a much better response to a problem if you start your own, new thread.

i think every merc owner should spend £130 on an icarsoft mb2 , they are then a step closer to not spending 1oo 's of ££££££'s at mb dealers and garages. if your handy .

Thank you very much for your comments.
I tried to use Autel MaxiDiag elite diagnostics tool, but it could no identify any problem.
Before I get the icarsoft mpII, I ordered the Haynes manual that might be able to help me locate the Glow Plugs Relay that might be the culprit of this fault....
All the best.
